Bug, Feature or working as intended
Came across a strange one. I am in my Caravel and come across an embarked barbarian who is just sitting there doing nothing. I attack and it takes 3-4 shots to since him. (Of course a friend told me later you can over-run embarked units in your Caravel. So today I have my knights embarked when I come across a barbarian galley. Boom, he attacks and kills me in one shot... ??? See thread title
Although the game shows combat odds and how much health will be lost, often times the latter number is not what actually happens. Its just a general number. This number can vary a lot (especially against cities) so it may have simply been a lucky shot on the barbarian's part and several unlucky ones on yours, unfortunately. Also, I think embarked units have the same general strength, be it an embarked horseman or an embarked modern armor.
Embarked units cannot defend themselves, and when "rolled onto" by a naval unit, they die.
^ This unfortunately. The Songhi unique ability allows them to defend themselves though.
