Weird graphical glitch....
Here is a pic of what's happening
I get random black squares, sometimes they pop in and out, sometimes they're just a solid color. I already "verified the integrity of my game cache" via Steam so nobody suggest that. My rig is i5-2500K + 4 gigs ram + 2 GTX fermi 560s if thats of any importance. The game used to not have the glitches, this was back when I had 1 gtx 560. Maybe it's an SLI issue? And yes, this is the only game I have any graphical issues with.
Testing if it's an SLI issue is easy (which is very much possible. As far as I know it's not a game made for SLI) just turn one of your GPU's off. Not sure if the driver can do that, or that just need to remove the bridge and the power connector from the secondary card.
If it's gone then, there you go, your issue is SLI
If that's the case, you can only hope for a driver update to fix the issue.
Black or red texture squares have been around for a while. Cause seems to be to be a bottleneck when the GPU can't render as fast as the CPU pumps out data so the game is ready to move forward before the screen is fully re-drawn. Worse on larger maps and more prevalent later game. For me the squares do go away with time once things get caught up.
The latest nvidia drivers (now 295 but reported as the full 290 family) are showing severe texture flickering for some cards when SLI is on for Civ V but also games like Skyrim. There is an SLI profile for Civ V but it appears that whatever they have done recently has caused some new SLI related issues. So I'm on rolled back to the 285 driver which has not had any such issues and haven't seen black squares very often, even when using SLI and Surround.
I was getting this as well with the latest Nvidia driver: 295.73 (what a piece of crap that one turned out to be! WHQL? Really?) Blinking, dark squares around the terrain; they're extremely annoying. (Though, I don't think I had any graphical issues with SC2... strange.)
I had a pair of 1 gb GTS 460's in SLI. i5 cpu, ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156 mobo, 8 gb of Corsair XMS3 RAM 1333 mhz, Win 7 Ultimate. Never had any real problems until I installed that driver. My pc was also crashing/freezing when I was using my internet browser (I think the fix was to go into internet options and check the setting to disalbe GPU rendering.)! I believe I was also using each of the beta drivers before that release, and didn't have any real issues.
Coincidently, I was also ready to upgrade my rig. Now I have the 2nd Gen i7 with the new Z68 mobo (ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3), same RAM as above and OS, with two 2 gb GTX 560 ti's in SLI (I'm a sucker for SLI). Also got a new PSU, corsair HX1050 to upgrade my Antec 850 quattro, and an Intel 520 series SSD for my system/apps drive (It's awesome! I don't even see the cinematic and a standard map takes 6 secs to load.).
Anyway... now you have a glimpse of my machine, and guess what? I still had the blinking squares issue with the latest Nvidia driver! lol...
Just roll back to 286.62. (Possibly even one of the later beta drivers, but I'm not gonna bother with them and I'm just gonna wait for the next latest driver.) The game (and my system in general) is stable/solid and the game runs awesome.
Nvidia forums are full of the same texture flickering complaint for a number of games (including Skyrim) played on a 460 or 560 in an SLI configuration. Its a problem with the 290 driver family. Turn off SLI and its ok. Most people with the issue have gone back to the 285 driver and Nvidia is supposed to be fixing it. The problem seems to be they test with high end cards and not with the older or lower end cards.
