Buying the GOTY edition reverted my game version, and it won't update
Hi everyone, I apologize if this is a common problem, but I couldn't find it in the FAQs or elsewhere online. I've had Civ 5 since launch, and not too long ago Steam did an update with some notable improvements like being able to shut up the advisors after the first time they say something. I recently bought the Game of the Year edition during the Steam sale, and after installing it and running it I found that it's now running a version previous to the update I described (I can't shut up the advisors and so on). I've tried restarting my computer and Steam, but it doesn't recognize a need to update, nor can I figure out a way to force it to. Any advice would be appreciated.
I can't see how this would be a problem specific to my computer specs, but I can look them up if needed.
(edit) After trying the game again, I also discovered that I can't turn combat animations on and off in the middle of a game. I'm certain I used to be able to. I have never installed any mods on my game.

Reason: More evidence of reversion
Can you tell us what version of Civ is displayed below the main menu?
The version is 126.96.36.1991.
That means your Civ version is up to date...
Maybe you had the beta patch enabled in your other version?
If you had the accidental patch then you should be happy to know that the full, official, patch is slated for later on today. The beta patch you had to explicitly sign up for - and you said you didn't do anything so it might have been the accidental one.
Aha, that accidental patch is exactly what was going on! I recognize that loading screen. Thanks for your help guys!
Right on, you're welcome!
