    Civ V Crashes On Start-Up

I have about 200 hours logged on Civ V so I know my system is capable of running the game. I was running it earlier in the day and it just started to not load anymore. It usually crashes during the opening logos never making it to the video.

I've followed all of the instructions on the Steam help page to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, verified the game files, ran in both DirectX modes, reinstalled DirectX 11, reinstalled D3D11 and vcredsit as well. I've obviously rebooted the computer several times, downloaded new drivers, and changed system settings to be able to run such a large program. I also changed the skip startup video value to 1 and it didn't fix anything. It just goes to a black screen and eventually crashes.

Nothing so far seems to help.

    Here's my dxdiag:

You didnt post enough of your DXDIAG to be truly helpful.

That being said, you are describing a classic case of a failed notebook GPU

With this being an HP DV7, it wouldnt surprise me if the driver you updated, is actually many years out of date as well.

it said it came out earlier this year but the driver was pretty irrelevant to performance issues.

I'm trying to post more of the dxdiag but the forum keeps giving me an error. The parameters for how much I can put in a post keep shrinking on each reply.

That is enough, the driver is fine.

I would try running a heavy benchmark, like heaven from unigine, and see if it completes, or crashes

I notice the tesselation on that benchmark is disabled - did it default to that, or was that a user setting?

Can you run the tesselation tests?

It autodisabled. But the good news is that it works again. I solved it by completely uninstalling Steam and reinstalling. unfortunately it forced me to reinstall Civ V for the third time but it worked. According to the 2k support experts it was a glitch in the DLL files. Thanks for the assistance QT.

    Glad it is working
