Graphics pixelated, no mouse in main menu, HELP!!!!!
Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2
Comp Model:Inspiron 1721
Available Virtual Memory 3.96gb
" Physical Memory 1.13gb
Well, i start a new game and the intro works well. Main character is smoking a cigarette, looking into the wallet and then the plane starts to shake.
Black screen, sounds of screaming
Then, everything is very pixelated, can only make out fire and a little bit of water.
High res movie works well but the in game movies and actual game play is terrible. Basically in a black hole with a few pixelated effects surrounding the character.
Please help guys. My girlfriend bought me this game, and ive been dying to play it for very long.
Thanks a lot in advance and Merry Christmas to everyone.
The issue is that your graphics card is a ATI RADEON® Xpress1270 HyperMemory™(64MB local frame buffer). Which does not meet the minimum of an X1300 to play Bioshock. You can dig around: This Forum to find user-created modifications that will make it work on the hardware you have but keep in mind that these modifications have very long load times between levels (5 to 10 minutes) and are not supported here. Although you will be able to find lots of support at the above link with the modification. You may run into issues only having 64MB of dedicated graphics memory as well, Bioshock's stated minimum is 128MB. Your graphics card does share memory with the main system although so you'd have to try it and see.

Reason: Added additional sentence about minimum graphics memory.
I looked around the forum but havent found any questions that correlate to my problem. Im still fishing around but starting to loose hope.
Thanks a lot though and i appreciate the help!
You aren't going to be able to play it. The Xpress1270 is NOT a graphics card, it is a graphics chipset (HUGE difference.) That model of laptop can also come with an Intel GMA X3100 chipset or dedicated videocards (8400M GS or a 8600M GT.) By the sounds of your issue you definitely have one of the integrated chipsets (most likely the 1270.). Those have no VRAM at all and use a portion of your system RAM for video/textures which is slow as hell (both Hyper-memory and Turbo-cache are garbage for gaming.) Also the 1270 does not support Shader Model 3.0 which is required for BS. Your integrated chipset supports SM2.0B but unfortunately even the ShaderShock site will not help you. Those fixes are for actual videocards not chipsets. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is nothing you will be able to do to make the game run on your laptop.
The X3100 from Intel is just about as bad but it does at least support SM3.0 making it DirectX109.0C compliant unlike the 1270. However the 1270 is a slightly more powerful chipset overall.

Well, I was able to get the game running (although it lags).
I installed the shader patch and at least i can see the map now. Everything is about 1 second behind, including sound and game play.
Thanks to everyone by the way.
I figured my damn computer would support this. Brand spanking new...
Seems as if games are become too sophisticated for the average joe's computer...
The way I understand it, the ShaderShock fixes will work for any ATI-based Shader Model 2.0\2.0b card, be it integrated or add-on. (Running it well - that's another question, and one that I don't have an answer to.)

Thanks for the info ReverendTed, I stand corrected
Good to know the fixes work with ATI 2.0/2.0B chipsets as well. I know the Intel chipsets won't benefit from it but what about nvidia, are those still a lost cause as well?
To date, we have only been able to produce working fixes for ATI SM2.0 and 2.0b cards.
Unsupported Intel and Nvidia cards simply crash.
We don't know why.
