CivRev demo review: I'm feeling kissed by Firaxis
I bought Civ4 at release day. Game one took 10h the first day, game two took 10h the second day. Game three was splitted up on 2h each afternoon for a complete week. I never touched the game after that.
Today I've completed the demo for the 6th time. Hence I played this demo (!) twice as much as I ever played Civ4.
Why did I quit Civ4? Let me put it this way. I'm 30, have two children. I was an avid Civ & Civ2 player when I was a youngster. At that time of my youth, I had nothing better to do. I played on my brothers computer or at a friend every day after school. I really enjoyed every moment. But sadly I grow up. Today, I don't have 10h to spare so often. So I might get 3h on some weekdays when my fiance is at work and after my children was put to bed.
My guess is that many of the old fans is having the same dilemma as me. The fast pace of CivRev is just magnificent. The length of matches is just perfect to keep me interested. Firaxis also did a great job selecting what features to remove. Going for less micro-management but keeping the essential Civ (2?) gameplay is just brilliant. I don't feel like I'm missing something. 16 nations/leaders should also be enough to keep me interested for a long period. More nations would just give me a sad feeling that I would never have the time to play each nation to the extend that I know their strengths & weaknesses.
Graphics is what I expected, nice & detailed. The music will however be turned off after a few more games (but I do some on most games I play).
I'm feeling kissed by Firaxis. They seem to have created the game I have waited and dreamed about for so long. CivRev is just a big big present to the oldschool gamers. But I also get the feeling that CivRev will reach a complete new & younger audience. And I hope they enjoy it as much as I do.
I don't speak English natively, so please ignore all my language faults...
I am new to the Civ series, only just getting to play the older ones at a friends house. I am in the newer generation of gamers, our expextations are probly abit higher than yours but I can Agree CivRev scores a good 9/10 in my book and only because the world isn't bigger. But It is by far the best stragity game to Date. I think the leaders in the game would be proud to see there armies crush entier nations under is/her heel (besides Ghandi, he wouldn't aprrove).
Welcome to the forums Maq!
I am in the same boat as you. That is why I feel they have made the game just for me (errr us!)
I feel you
Your use of Civ 4 closely parallels my own. I am also a 30+ year old with family and work responsibilities. I'm pretty sure I never played a Civ 4 game on a world bigger than Tiny, or on a speed slower than Fast. We older users are certainly the (or at least "a") target demographic for this game, and I, too, am thankful for the opportunity to play it.
However, may I suggest that you invite your significant other to play the game "with" you? Even though we bemoan the lack of a local hotseat option, my wife and I truly enjoy watching each other play this demo, and I am sure the full game will be similar.

Reason: spelling error
Dude. You're married to a woman who enjoys Civ. (Turns green with envy). Don't mess up the marriage. You have a dream woman there.

my wife hated civ...until she saw CivRev now she wants to try playing CivRev also!
Well this is my first time playing a Civ game EVER! I heard they are really good but I was never into RTS/God-Games but now I am hooked. I am just conflicted on whether to get it for PS3 or 360 lol. Also Maq for a guy who's English is not good your writing is impeccable! =)
Apart from the speaking english natively and the age thing (i'm 29 ) your experience mirrors mine. Go Civ:Rev....

Hats off to the firaxis team, they've gone and done it again, an amazingly fun civ game like the civs of yore.
