    Slingshot DLC ruins my savegames

Ok, sorry, for myself being a little pissed off, but:

After having installed the new DLC, my hard earned savegames were all corrupted. Don`t know, why.

I reached on ironman all but the last mission. They could have informed us about the matter...

Yeah same here too. Pretty poor of them really.

Same - getting an error message that I'm missing DLC, something relating to "packIn_Friendlyname?"

  4. #4
    Specifically:
    "INT?XComUIShell.UIFinalShell.m_strDLC_PackIN_Frie ndlyName?"

Yeah, this is my failure-message too.

No one can tell me, they didn`t know this. *grrr

    Okay, starting a new game.

Interesting side note. While trying to fiddle with the files, I've come across the fact that the next DLC pack will be called "Progeny" and will feature a character called Minister Thorne...

Getting the same error here, though strangely, only on my latest game. My oldest saves from Game 1 are fine.

    Missing Required Downloadable Content:
    ?Int?XComUIShell.UIFinalShell.m_strDLC_PackIn_Frie ndlyName?

Maybe they forgot to sync updating the DLC with the latest patch, so your save from the clean first version works fine with it.
Now they better rush the patch for save game compatibility shortly after.

Considering the fact that it breaks everyone's save games, I can guarantee you that it's the number one thing on their priorities list.

I can confirm the same. Games 1 through 3 are fine on my machine. Everything onwards is broken.

Same exact error here. Has anyone successfully loaded a recent game save after installing the DLC?

This seems to be a really big bug to have slipped through the net...

Just came here to report the same issue. Grr! Love the game, hate the big bugs ><

Posted elsewhere, but will post again here. My saved games don't work anymore either. The ones above game 100 that is. Everything below game 100 loads fine.

    Kind regards,

They should rename the game "XCom: Bugs Unknown"...

I'm glad that i've decided to wait before buying this...

Same and I was literately about to start the final mission on classic mode, I have not beaten it on that difficulty and I really don't want to have to start from scratch.

Same here tested many saves all give the same error:

    "INT?XComUIShell.UIFinalShell.m_strDLC_PackIN_Frie ndlyName?"

Screenshot from reddit showing the error:

Well, this isn't very good. Good thing I didn't want to play tonight... I think I'll wait a little while to see if a fix is forthcoming.

Opps. I posted in general discussion about this too. I guess I can delete that now.
Reinstalling but I doubt that will do anything.

Does anyone know if this is intentional or been looked at ? thanks.

Does anyone know if the DLC corrupts the saved games on the Xbox 360 version?

Makes you wonder what kind of inept programs they have working on this game. Here I finally got around to playing Xcom (purchased day one), been playing all day, saw the DLC, grabbed it and now the past 8hrs I have spent are garbage. How stupid can they be to release DLC that breaks savegames - do they understand the term "quality control"? Now I have to sit and wait until its fixed before I can play again, and I was quite enjoying myself... And this is game 1 saves that it ruined.

Hmmm, lets dig thru the files and see if I can find something to disable the DLC or get my saves to work...

    Really???

In end game of impossible ironman - finally and now I can't continue. I really wish I would have checked the forums BEFORE installing the DLC. 2k - please address this!

I'm experiencing the same problem - and with the same symptom of older save games being okay, but newer ones getting the error.

It looks like it's looking for some sort of content in the original DLC, so it's possible that this only impacts people with the Elite Soldier Pack DLC installed. Not sure what might have changed, but seems like save games from before the first game patch are unaffected.

Well to add my setup, I have the launch version, but have way to many games and only got around to playing it last nite. I have the pre-order Elite Soldier DLC and my saves are corrupt. And it must relate to a missing file since I was able to monkey with the new DLC and make it go away... but hmmmm... what if I delete the Elite DLC...

    ATTENTION DEVS:

Looking thru the log files I have discovered one thing that might help solve the problem.

    [0033.39] DevDlc: UDownloadableContentManager::ClearDLC
    [0033.39] DevDlc: Looking for DLC...
[0033.43] DevDlc: Found DLC dir DLC_PackIn
[0033.45] DevDlc: Found 10 package files
[0033.45] DevDlc: Found 8 content files

This is missing in the logs files after the Slingshot DLC was installed, it only shows this in that section (and the above has none of the files loading, where the below does have them loading):

    [0027.35] DevDlc: UDownloadableContentManager::ClearDLC
    [0027.35] DevDlc: Looking for DLC...
[0027.35] DevDlc: Found DLC dir DLC_Day060
[0027.36] DevDlc: Found 662 package files
[0027.37] DevDlc: Found 57 content files

So the new DLC is stopping the Elite DLC from loading. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

Playing with folder names and the XcomDLC.ini file, I am able to stop the DLC_Day060 from loading and get the DLC_PackIn to load via the log file. However this did not solve the problem with the error message. Hopefully tho some of this info will be helpful...

I would give another reminder that it is perfectly okay to be upset with this and express your disappointment, but please do so in a polite and respectful way. Calling the programmers inept, stupid and I am sure a bunch of other things you may want to call them while frustrated with this save game bug is not going to help get a solution any faster. Do say if you are getting the bug and it really ticks you off by all means.

Now I am really worried about if my impossible ironman save will still be okay when I download the DLC on my 360 later... Is this bug affecting the 360?

Re-downloading the Elite DLC had no effect.
I can get the log to show both being loaded:

    [0026.31] DevDlc: UDownloadableContentManager::ClearDLC
    [0026.31] DevDlc: Looking for DLC...
[0026.31] DevDlc: Found DLC dir DLC_Day060
[0026.32] DevDlc: Found 662 package files
[0026.32] DevDlc: Found 57 content files
[0026.32] DevDlc: Found DLC dir DLC_PackIn
[0026.32] DevDlc: Found 10 package files
[0026.33] DevDlc: Found 8 content files

And comparing an older log, I can verify the Elite DLC is loading - still get the error message tho, something else is the issue:

    [0033.45] Log: ------------- AddPackagesToFullyLoad: fullyloadtype 3 for : GuidCache_DLC_PackIn

Ugh... Having the same issue! Hopefully, they will have a fix soon. This is the ONLY way my "fix" for XCOM can come to a halt... LOL

Everyone will probably be mad at me for saying this, but i have a fix.
    Don't buy the DLC.

  35. #35
Small question : Does this corrupt existing save files or just make them unplayable?

If I buy the DLC and start a new game I should be able to go back to my unfinished CI game when there is a bugfix? No?

I would assume it just renders them unplayable for now, until they realise how to make both DLCs work together. I doubt they have become corrupted.

Nice job Firaxis! Less content for the highest price and even break your game!
How can i resist to buy this? :P

Just posting to say that the same thing has happened to me - can't access any of my recent saved games. Terrific!

  39. #39
    Oh, that's just gravy.

First you get screwed for buying the Elite Soldier DLC by getting alt skins for the crappy early armors and helmets that do not match the textures of the later armors and look dumb as hell on female soldiers. But YAY, you also get a Guile hairdo. At least I got it on sale.

Then (thank you sir may I have another) you buy the Slingshot because it LOOKS like a worthwhile update both content-wise and graphics-wise, and it pooches your save games.

Yeah, like a complete moron I got up today and grabbed Slingshot ASAP (was looking forward to it for the whole week), and that lovely "missing DLC" message is all I get.

    Well done Firaxis, great job.

I am experiencing the same problem. I wonder if they have a test analyst for the project.
A user cannot really blame the developers for this issue. This is a major weakness in their QA department.
The third set of intergration testing should have covered this. Should have never made it live. Its such a basic id10t bug.

Wondering if they are hiring? I would not mind writing some test cases for this.
