Ranked game bug?
So I was in a ranked FFA last night. I don't remember the names of the players I was up again, but there where three. One was Aztecs, one was the Zulu, and the other was Japan. I was Spain. The AI was India.
So the game progresses, I survive the Zulu players small rush, and Japan eventually drops out. Eventually, the Zulu player quits out. But like 4 turns later, he is somehow able to join the ranked game, and instead of being Zulu, he is now China.
Is this working as intended on a ranked game? If so, I think once the game starts, no one should be able to join again and change civs.
The aztecs eventually applied enough pressure and caused the China player to quit for good, and I eventually won by culture flipping most of the Aztec's players cities. So in the end, I wasn't angry over the situation, but had I loss, I would have been annoyed to say the least
Yeah I've been put back into games that I left a while ago. In one instance I even quit to play a couple of levels of Pixel Junk Eden, then came back to find the AI had been building cities in stupid places!
When it happens, you can select your civ as per starting a fresh game. I don't know if it's a deliberate feature to allow people who's connections dropped to rejoin, but I dread to think what it's doing to the servers with all these games hanging around. I think it probably does more harm than good...
Maybe server load could be improved by the game switching to peer-to-peer once a match begins..?
It is peer to peer... Gamespy is there only for the matching/joining, synchronization, leaderboards. You see that monitoring the IP traffic. After a game starts there are left active peerchat.gamespy.com at port ircd, and then the other 1 to 3 players IP addresses at port 13139. Indeed once started the game DOES work (so much for our "broken" network connections). It's indeed what's under Gamespy that fails in all aspects.
