Yeah, it's easy for you noobs to criticize RevCasts that were recorded before you were even a twinkle in Sid Meier's eye.

As a matter of fact, yes.

It's something that's been touched on the show before, but here's an opportunity revisit it -- specifically -- as well as react and respond to who said what and how. Earlier this year, GameInformer interviewed Sid Meier for a "Future of Strategy Gaming" feature and one of their questions was on CivRev. It was:

CivRev was a very, I guess, different sort of a Civilization in a lot of ways; again, a much more elegant sort of a design for the consoles. [..] What's exciting about console development? What's different for someone like you who is traditionally PC-focused designer, with a PC-focused company?
    Sid's reply:

What was fascinating about CivRev to me, and that was a project I really enjoyed designing, was to try and distill the Civ experience into an evening. Civ can be... [laughs] a week-long experience, and that's great for a lot of people but not everybody has that much time to invest in the game. The challenge was to pack all of the fun and excitement of a Civ game into that amount of time.

I enjoy that challenge, using the kind of graphic capabilities of the console and working with the different controller, all those things were kind of fun problems for me. But the sweep of history experience into kind of an evening, that was our target. I think we did a pretty good job... when you look back over CivRev games, you have the same turning points, those moments that really influenced where those things went, but you kind of were able to pack them into a shorter period of time.

Wouldn't mind hearing a few strategies about free for all. Most of the polycasts are head to head based, FFA would be interesting.

After listening to the last revcast about wonders I'm starting to think Leanardo's workshop may be the best wonder in the game. Its been huge for me lately.

You can do two things Mawpawk:

    1. If you have an ipod or iphone go into itunes and search for the civ rev polycast and download it from there
    2. If you want it on .mp3 than go to this link http://civcomm.weplayciv.com/polycast/revcast/ and right click on the episode you want and left click save target as.

Another topic for the show would be one started not long ago -- or, at least, resurfaced not long ago -- about whether or not CivRev is being played by gamers as the developers intended.

Should be an interesting discussion, I would say most gameplay mechanics yes. However, I think the idea of settler moving completely took the ancient bonus' and created an imbalance unanticipated. Some civ specific bonus' are used differently than I believe the designer intended as well. Will be interested to hear what others think regarding this.

I defintiely think you should be on there Packrat as you have came on the forums to dominate King Titles and then you were number 1 in h2h and still have a chance to achieve that on FFA... You should speak on the next one. I would like to be on the next one too speaking on FFA.

I had a thought... i think I might have discovered somthing that I have never seen anyone do before and its quite big and useful, in some games...

I think I'll keep it as a teaser for the next revcast!

I was listening to episode 4 about military units and they were gushing about hoplites and longbows, which is all fine and good...

But they didn't say anything about HAs. It was like, "Oh yeah, you can also build horses in ancient." And that was it.

Pretty funny given how the game has evolved.

Love the podcast—when's the next one due?

RevCast Episode 41: "A Different Direction"

Yet still well on one's way. Regular co-hosts Matt "elthrasher" Morgan and "ScottieX" lead the forty-first episode of RevCast (RC) entitled "A Different Direction"; it is now netcasting with a runtime of 29m59s. The summary of topics is as follows:

    - 01m07s | Topic #1
The merit and intrigue in asking, and answering, whether or not Civilization: Revolution gamers play it as the designers intended.
    - 16m51s | Topic #2
In extended response to an expressed desire to write a new strategy, going over a number of minor efforts that can have a major impact.

RevCast is the second spin-off of the Civ strategy-centric PolyCast; fellow sibling ModCast focuses on Civ modding and TurnCast on Civ multiplay.
