The general excuse by the developers (not just of this, other similar games like GTA) is that even though vehicles may look exactly like real world models, they're really actually "make believe" ones - this not only serves to give developers free reign but also as a convenience because it instantly counters assertions of "inaccuracies" by posts like the OP.
A nice excuse to get around fixing those errors that-would-be-encountered if they were to slap the real world labels on them.

would imagine there's a lot of licensing hassle with using "real" cars, why go through all that when it's a fictional game, and only a very few ppl would care or notice the styling might not fit a particular year.

I hope they have the bolt thrower in M2...actually, I hope they have all the Free Ride Extreme cars in M2, just refurbished.
It will....although under a different name. Since Bolt became Smith, It might keep the thrower name or might change - I don't know. But somehow I doubt the M1 FRE cars will make a comeback. What I actually hope for (If there is a FRE or a prototype section) is to have actually 50's show cars (LeSabre, Panther, ect.) as protoypes - just under their respective mock-makes.

And maybe cars like the Tucker Torpedo , I think in this case they could actally use the REAL name http://www.jornalalternativa.com.br/...do,%201948.jpg

pointless thread who gives a sh*t its a 40's car and that's all that matters.
BTW the cars in mafia are not even real (names, brands, etc...) So it doesn't matter.
