First to Discover Bonuses
Is anyone else as completely dependent as I am on some of the first-to-discover bonuses? I don't know what'd I'd do without Industrialization & Corporation. The combined +10 gold/city when I've got 15-20 cities funds my libraries/markets/temples phase. That's the point in the SP deity game that launches me from "in the lead" to "dominating far in the lead."
To a lesser extent literacy, engineering, & university are a hit when I'm not the first, but I manage. It's one of the things that makes me realize I'm not ready for MP just yet.
Don't think you're not ready for MP just because you rely on Ind/Corp. A LOT of folks do the same (including yours truly). Those are 2 of the most sought after techs in the whole game. They can absolutely change the balance of power if you've expanded well. Sounds like you expand just fine w/15-20 cities (so long as it's not 1900 AD by the time you get all those cities). I'd say you're good-to-go for MP myself.

What really makes me say that is it sounds like you are in need of some adversity to take another step in skill. MP was really the first place I had to think about getting rushed early, not actually getting 90% of the tech bonuses, and how to attack, defend, sweat out a close match etc.
MP will eventually break you out of those comforts that SP provides you. It will make you realize that you're ok even if you don't get some of the better bonuses, as long as you have a plan. If someone is going all out fot the techs a little too fast, you can often hit them before they get really advanced techs and take out their weakly defended cities.
If you know how to expand, how to tech, how to beat Deity without really feeling like the game is on the line, then you are more than ready. The transition will be smoother for you than a lot of people, who are so eager to come online as soon as the get the game and play a few SP games.
You'll just have to go through the normal growing peigns of learning how to deal with rushers, fast techers, the timer, and all the little stuff that goes into MP. After a week or two, you'll pretty much see what's going on, and realize there's a lot of players that can't possible do what you are doing to Deity right now.
If you doubt Pedal or I, just add one of us, we'll play you.
Sounds like you have an understanding of the game to me. Play MP a lot and youll only get better. Curious to know what civ you play.

I can only agree
I agree completely with you guys.
I was exactly as our friend playing a lot og SP and having a lot of fun with that. However, I ended up in a situation where there wasn't that much challenge beating the AI's even on deity.
Then I started playing Game of the week which was fun in a slightly different way - first, because you were not allowed to save - second, because you could adjust your game strategy because you knew the map the next time you played it - and finally, because it is fun to see how far you could get on the leaderboard.
However, the most fun for me right now is playing MP. Here the situation is very much different from the SP you cannot count on humans being as predictable as AIs.
Also some players are a lot stronger than the AI, and you will have to live with not winning every time, and even the possibility to get beaten by someone playing the same strategy as you are only better.
I have problems playing: Free for all (four players and one AI) right now I think others have the same problem?
However, you can play head to head (only two players and three AI) and it is almost as much fun.
So, get on the net and play MP it is fun. And if you want to improve your game you will have to play some players that are better than you.
