If you get the error message 'SecuLauncher: failed to start application. [2000]'

Please note that this is a common issue when the Visual Studio C++ redistributable and/or Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 was not installed properly.

1.To solve the issue, please open your Windows Explorer/My Computer and switch to the following directory on the
    'BioShock 2' Disc #1: e.g. E:\Support\Redist\G4WL\.
In that folder you will find a file called 'vcredist_x86.exe'. Please execute this application and follow the installation wizard.

2.Please also download and install the latest version of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.

After you have successfully installed the Visual Studio C++ redistributable and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 please perform the recommended reboot. 'BioShock 2' should start fine now.

Have you been able to save at all? Currupted saves can prevent you from starting up B2.

If you have already played and now cant, thats probably the issue. if not, then I don't know what to tell you. Sorry man, I hope you get it to work

This is definately linked to Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, I've seen it numerous times.

Go to Add/Remove and uninstall it.

Then install the Redistributable on the DVD.

The only two things that cause this error that I'm aware of is Visual C++ and .NET Framework.

Even if you've already done this, please follow these steps:

    1. Install "vcredist_x86.exe" from the game DVD in Support\Redist.

    2. Update .NET Framework from Microsoft.

    3. Reboot, then start Bioshock 2.

    4. If it works, place money in my PayPal account.

The above is the accepted fix for the problem you're having, it should work.

on the back of Kleetus's post please ensure if you have other versions of visual c++ already installed in your add/remove programs list to remove them and try his troubleshooting from the disk.

It has been noted that previous versions of Visual C++ can cause issues.

Please let me know if this helps.

Here's what you may want to do..

Firstly, You have to uninstall All the .Net Framework and Visual C++ from add/Remove Program.

Then redownload all of .net Framework Including .Net Framework v1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.5, 3.5SP1.
Then install it From 1.0 to 3.5Sp1 in sequence.

    1) Net Framework 1.0
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    2) NET Framework Version 1.1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    3) NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    4) NET Framework Version 2.0
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    5) NET Framework 3.0
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    6) NET Framework 3.5
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    7)NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Then downlaod and reinstall all The Visual C++, again DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL IN SEQUENCE.

    1) Visual C++ 2005
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    2. Visual C++ 2005 SP1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    3) Visual C++ 2008
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    4) Visual C++ 2008 SP1
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    After that,
Go to windows update to update your windows.
Check for updates on Visual C++ and .Net Framework. Ensure that all of it are updated.

    Now Install the latest Directx.

    Directx
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Now Restart your PC and Start the game again. You DON'T NEED TO INSTALL THE GAME AGAIN AS THIS ISSUE IS A Visual C++ and .NEt Framework Issue.
The Reason why i asked you to install all of the components above in sequence is because to ensure that all of the Files and Scripts required to launch Games For Windows Live GUI is in your PC.

Dont Panic..I can assure you..if you do it correctly and using an Original Copy of the game. You will be able to enter the single player this time around.

    yours truly,
    Fitz Gamer

Don't go installing other versions of Visual C++.

    Follow my earlier post.

The steps I posted are the steps Sony has on their SecuROM site for this error you're experiencing.

Installing other things will just complicate or compound the issue.

ok i tried to do like you said but i do not know where to uninstall all the dotnet files. it keeps telling me : you must use "turn windows features on or off " in the control panel to install or configure microsoft.net framework3.0 x64. i have done that and it still wont let me install it the way you said to

I did not see anywhere in the thread about what OS we are discussing. Some of the "solutions" may apply to XP but if the OP has Vista or Windows 7 you do not want to do some of those steps.

So....what OS are we discussing and trying to find a fix for?

So do I, but when troubleshooting, the less you install and have, the less chance of problems.

That's just common sense and basic.

Installing things you don't need, when you're trying to get a game to run is asking for trouble.

And Sony themselves don't say to install other Visual C versions.

EDIT: Anyway CrazyFrog, there's no point having numerous people steering you in different directions, so I'll leave you alone.

    Good luck.

My whole point is people are making suggestions on what to do without knowing what OS the OP has.

You do not uninstall .NET on Win 7 as it is part of the OS and Win 7 already has the latest version available.
If people are going to suggest to other people to do things to their system then make sure what system you are messing with or you may cause even more problems for them.

I never said to use drivers on Windows update.

I said do not use those ones so please get the facts straight before posting.

If you do not know about how 32 bit programs are emulated when run on a 64 bit OS then it will take too long for me to explain.

    Thanks for posting,

Only thing that I can see which may be an issue is the 1.1 framework installation as Windows 7 includes 3.5 it should also come with the incremental updates too.

If all else fails can you try the Securom Diagnostic tool?
