This isn't a debate thread about who's right/wrong. We'll find out in the final version. Just be content with the answers until the game comes out. We're going to find out soon enough anyway. - Xardas

Is anyone answering our questions at the moment? It seems as though things are slowing down a bit. Not a criticism, just an observation. Appreciate that Liz and co are very busy but i'd hate for people to get the impression we're being hidden from all of a sudden.....
I'm not advocating this post, but I'm sure others are feeling the same thing as well so I'll answer. I'm still compiling all the questions you guys are asking and making sure that Liz gets them all to the developers. She just got the last batch of questions, so I'm sure that the devs have them in their hands and may even be reading them over to start answering them. It only took a day for Liz to get answers to 25+ of the questions you guys already had and the last batch contained 50. So give them some time to answer. - Xardas

Thank you for the response. Appreciate the acknowledgement. I actually think you're doing one of the better jobs on this forum to be honest. Thanks again.

Here are some new answers for you!
Will you release current PS3 screenshots/footage before launch?
Reviewers will be posting screens (some already have) – so more will be coming out!
Are there any AI improvements in the final product such as enemies becoming smarter of the city acting more realisticly?
The AI is a bit different in the game than the demo based on it being the full experience, but I wouldn’t necessarily say anyone is “smarter” – also, you might want to up your difficulty level, particularly with the enemies.
Will the gangs be as aggressive in the game as they are in the demo?
Yes, they will be as aggressive – they will also behave slightly differently depending on who you are dealing with and at what point in the game.
If vito starts a gunfight with a rival gang, will this turn all gangsters in that neighborhood hostile or just the ones in the area?
Not all the gangsters will immediately turn on you – just the ones in the area where you have started the trouble.
I know gangs will control their turfs, but will we see any non-gangsters walking the streets, and if provoked pull out a gun and shoot at vito?
No – civilians won’t be doing this. You might see it from gangsters and police, however!
Will there be secrets or any eastereggs related to Mafia1 to find in Mafia II?
Why… Yes. Yes there might be some nods to the original game. ;-)
Can Vito enter into nightclubs like catclub and maltese falcon when not on mission?
He can enter most of them, such as the Maltese Falcon and Freddie’s Bar – although not the Catclub specifically.
Once vito is wanted, will the police continue to respawn and hunt him down like a dog just like in the GTA games?
Police will hunt you as long as you have a wanted rating – you’ll need to get rid of that to be fully free of them.
What different type of random encounters will we see in Empire Bay? For Example: Will random shootouts breakout between the police/gangs without vito being involved?
There are crimes and traffic accidents in the city – it’s a living place, so you will get into some interesting situations. I’ll leave it at that and let you explore for yourself – but yes, the city does interact with you and around you.
Can you obtain cars legally outside of missions?
No – you receive cars in missions, but you cannot outright buy a car legally. Taking one off the street that you like? Why, sure.
Will every version of the game include subtitles in other languages? If so which ones?
For the PS3 and the PC version, the following languages will be on the disc: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Czech, and Polish. We have full localization for every language except Polish, which only has native subtitles. For the Xbox 360, the languages on the disc depend on what region of the world you live in and what is the most common languages for that region.
Will there be alternate control layouts for the console versions?
There are two different layouts for the console versions and both are in the demo for you to try out.
Will you unlock new weapons in shops as you progress through the game?
Yes, you will.
How long does the '40s section last compared to the '50s version?
Denby told me it’s a 30/60 split, and that’s all I’m going to say!
How will lock-picking work in Mafia II? Is it just a mini-game or will you have to learn how to pick locks of newer cars as well? What's the benefit of picking a lock over smashing the window?
Lock picking is a mini game, and it takes more time to get into the car, but attracts less attention. Locks do differ depending on the car – some are much more difficult than others.
Will manual driving be available in the future?
No, it will not be.
Will bullets affect dead bodies?
No, they won’t.
How long do you have to wait before you can go back to a store that you've already robbed without being noticed?
This is something that will vary depending on how you rob the store, what your wanted status is, what you do to the shop owner… But it can be a short or much longer time period.
Can something be fixed about the camera being too close to the player in houses/small shops?
This was a design decision on the part of the team and won’t be changed.
Could an optional first person point of view be added?
This is also a design decision for the team – Mafia II is a third person game, and that’s all it’s intended to be.
In the PS3 version, will bodies become charred when exposed to fire?
Yes, in certain situations there will be charred bodies.
Will Jimmy meet Vito in jail?
No, he won’t.
Can Jimmy change his clothes?
Will Jimmy be more of a badass than Vito?
They’re both badass in their own ways. One’s a mercenary, and one is rising up the ladder.
Will '40s car be available in the '50s?
Some will be. Any 40s cars that are in your garage will also be available in the 50s.
If you commit a crime in one area, leave, and go back, will the people there recognize you?
If you are still wanted, the police will. You’ll have to get rid of that wanted status first.
Will there be any entertainment like theaters/movie theaters/shows/etc.?
No, there won’t be entertainment-specific locations like movie theaters.
Will there be a Freeride mode outside of the game?
No – Mafia II is a story-based game and that was what we focused on and the experience we really wanted to immerse players in.
Will we have multiple garages?
You have 10 slots in your garage (more if you have the preorder cars so that you can fit those cars!) but you can access this garage in different areas throughout the city.
Can we choose the control layouts for the PC version by binding certain keys to controls?
Yes – you can customize your PC controls. There may be a couple set ups that don’t work (depending on how differently you like to configure your controls – I’ve seen some interesting ones in my time here.) You can test out the bindings in the demo, and if you can’t do something you want to, let me know in a PM or email – I’ll tell the team.
How many buildings can we enter in the game?
There are over 100 locations.
Can we turn off dynamic perspective for a high speed in simulation mode in the future?
No – Again, this is a design question, and not something we were aiming for.
Will the game support force feedback steering wheels? (It doesn't in the demo)
Not at this time – good idea though, I’ll tell the team!
Will there be cheats in the console or PC versions of Mafia 2?
No, there won’t.
Do any of the Playboy centerfolds have full frontals?
These are authentic centerfolds – and Playboy is a pretty classy magazine! You won’t see full frontals.
Will there be sixaxis support?
No, there won’t.
Will lighting be fixed for the PS3 version?
The lighting in the demo is how it will be in the full game – if you think there’s a problem with your lighting, please send me an email or PM and I’ll have the team take a look.
Can you swim?
No – Vito, alas, cannot swim.
Did they use real guns for the sounds in-game?
Yes, they did!
Are any voice actors in Mafia II from Mafia 1?
Yes, there are. ;-)
Can you smoke?
Not at any point while you are playing the game, but Vito does smoke in some key points.
Is there a mandatory install for the PS3 version. If so, how much space will it require?
It’s a very small install – less than 100 megs.
Will there be any multiplayer features in the future?
Mafia II is a story-based experience and we focused on the single player, story-based gameplay. However, we will have leaderboard support in upcoming DLC.
Will there be a stats list in the menu?
Yes, there will.
Is there a way to reclaim a vehicle that was in your garage after it has been destroyed?
Yes- vehicles that are stored in your garage are insured, so you will get them back.
When I drive, the shadows don't spawn until I'm right next to them. Will this be fixed?
The shadows in the demo for all versions are the same as in the game. If there’s a problem you are having, PM or email me and I’ll talk to the team about it.
What are the circumstances needed to perform a stealth kill? If I stealth kill a cop, will I immediately become wanted like if I shot them?
If you stealth kill a police officer, you won’t become wanted – but that’s difficult to do. You have to make sure no one sees you, and Empire Bay is a busy city.
Will there be different models for clothing store interiors, or will they be replicas?
There are several different kinds - you may see "chains" of sorts in different areas, but there are definitely distinct stores with different looks.

Remember guys, don't post responses to answers. JUST POST QUESTIONS. Figured I'd remind you since Liz just posted an awesome list of answers! I'll be adding these to the summary posts within 30 minutes. Thanks. - Xardas
No one is being hidden from, I promise you that. I actually oversee the entirity of our interactive marketing and community group, so I work on all 2K titles (although Mafia II is obviously the first thing on my mind right now.) On top of that, I need to wrangle the right guys, talk to them, then type up all the answers that I don't know myself (which are a bunch.)

People have been saying birds and such is in 360 but not in Ps3
Will there be seagulls, pigeons, and other animals in the PS3 version?
Liz already said that the demo is reflective of the final PS3 version. Also:
Thanks. - Xardas
I collect tech issues, design issues, and questions and supply the team with them. I don't have any news on future patches, but the team is aware of your feedback and I'll let you know when I hear something from them. You guys will be the first to know about any upcoming patches.

Heads-up guys. Summary threads two and three have been updated with the new answers. Here's a list of all the summary threads so far:
First Thread: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...60#post1018260
Second Thread: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...49#post1018549
Third Thread: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...89#post1020889
Keep up the questions guys! I'll post a new question summary thread when we get to 100.
Screen tearing was already asked. CHECK THE SUMMARY THREADS BEFORE POSTING. Thanks. - Xardas

This question is a bit specific, but I've only seen what looked to be this weapon once, so I would like some confirmation.
Is the Karabiner 98k (Kar98k) in the game as a useable weapon?
Its fine if you can't answer, but if you ask the dev time it would be great.
This was asked before by someone who was banned for triple-posting and ignoring infractions, but I'm curious about it too, so I'll put it in here:
92. Was Jimmy's character model inspired from anybody in real life? *cough*Ed Harris*cough*
I know this has been asked before but my computer is messing up and i cant search anything. Are there more types of cars than there is in the demo
Sorry if this was asked before, I looked but couldn't find anything.
On hard difficulty you say that enemies will be tougher on every level, your health will regenerate slower and the combat experience will be more realistic. That sounds great but just to check:
On hard difficulty enemies won't require more hits to kill will they?
Also thanks a lot to both Liz and Xardas for your time, very much appreciated!
Are there gun permits in the game? Or are there legal and illegal weapons?
Will the soundtrack be released on cd or iTunes?
This question will be in the next summary thread. - Xardas
Last edited by Xardas; 08-18-2010 at 09:28 AM.
When you kill a civilian, their body continues to lie on the ground. However, when you kill a cop, their body disappears seconds after killing them.
I know you've said the demo is representative of the final product, but will the bodies of policemen still disappear moments after they die?
Last edited by Fusionized; 08-18-2010 at 09:43 AM.
I'm only removing this question because I don't want there to be a ton of them asking about individual people. Considering Elvis' huge influence on what we think about when we think '50s, I'm sure a song or two of his will be in it. Try to keep the questions general about the music and don't ask about specific artists. Thanks. - Xardas

if this is too techy I understand but how much disc space did it used?
Alrighty, I was going to wait to post this until we hit 100 questions, but I figure we're close enough and we have some down time. So, without further ado, here is the fourth summary thread. Enjoy:
79. Is there going to be a chance to buy Mafia 2 merchandise?
Yes – we have exclusive swag up here: http://take2store.stores.yahoo.net/specialoffers.html
80. Can we expect a future co-op?
No, Mafia II is a story based game for a single player.
81. On the map, there is a widget titled "Jobs." What are those going to be?
I’m pretty sure you are looking into the game code, and is something the team may have used as reference – Why are you in the code, anyway?! Play the game! It’s awesome!
82. Will there be any real life events that are announced on the radio that are appropriate for the time you are in the game?
Yes, there will be.
83. Will Vito or any other character noticeably age in the game as time goes by?
Yes, slightly, but the most noticeable change you’ll see is that they dress differently as they change status and grow over time.
84. Is there a way to remove the Playboy magazines from the game for younger players?
Mafia II is rated M for Mature, so is intended only to be played for people who are 17 and older.
85. Are there any missions where Vito is in the war?
SPOILER! Yes, there are.
86. What difficulty setting was used on the demo?
The demo was a special difficult between easy and medium – Denby called it “measy.”
87. Is there a way to extend ammo clips for weapons in the game?
No, but there is a special gun with extended ammo.
88. When will we get our DLC items in game? Will they automatically be in the cars/garages?
Yes, they will be in your wardrobe or garage after you install them.
89. What type of surround sound will the PC version use?
90. What TYPES of stats will be in the statistics menu?
If you don’t already have the game, check out our ustream replay – we talk a lot about stats there! www.ustream.tv/2kgameslive
91. Is the Karabiner 98k (Kar98k) in the game as a useable weapon?
Yes, it is.
92. Was Jimmy's character model inspired from anybody in real life? *cough*Ed Harris*cough*
*Cough* No way! *Cough*
93. Are there more types of cars in the final version than in the demo?
94. Enemies on hard difficulty won't require more hits to kill, will they?
No, they don’t. They are harder, and more realistic, and can likely kill you more effectively since they are better at what they do.
95. Will there be gun permits in the game?
No, there won’t be. Keep your weapon hidden from the cops!
96. Will the soundtrack be released on CD/iTunes?
No, but the full track listing is available at www.mafia2game.com if you want to collect all the songs!
97. Will bodies disappear moments after they die in the final version?
Bodies work the same in the full game as they do in the demo.
98. How much disc space will the game require?
10-12 gigs on PC.
99. I wanted to know when you said "No tools will be released" if that was just at launch or will there be a possibility for them to be released later. Also if they don't release official tools will modding still be supported. i.e. New textures, models, maps, etc (like Mafia 1 mods b/c afaik modding tools were not given)
No, we have no modding support whatsoever.
You can find the links for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd summary threads on the first post of this thread. I'm not going to re-list them from now on. Thanks.

Reason: Updated with Liz's latest answers
This question about a patch has already been asked and I've had to close at least 10 reposts of it. Read the summary threads before posting. Thanks. - Xardas

As to not be ambiguous, I made sure to point out in my question that it's the bodies of policemen that disappear and not of ordinary NPCs. Just to make that clear.

Okay, so no manual shifting, but does hacking the code to add manual shifting fall into the realms of "modding"?

This Q, and Q # 99, are ambiguous, because Liz's modding thread doesn't give the full context for what we can discuss in terms of modding, and what exactly her definition of modding is.

Without official tools, modding by nature means that we have to be allowed to talk about reverse engineering, decompiling, etc. So will 2K allow us to talk about that on these forums? Liz said don't talk about anything "illegal", but the things we have to talk about for modding probably ARE "illegal" according to the license agreement of most games, including Mafia II.

Will there be any extra DLC that would add in extra areas? like a countryside? so DLC that adds in more areas to go in?
will there be more than 3 radio stations? will there be more jazz songs? where are these questions answered?
Answered by Jack and the reviewers. The answer is, no, there are only 3 radio stations in the game; however, they will change from the '40s to the '50s - Xardas

Ok, sorry, I admit I did not read the summary. So, here are some others:
- Did you pass the disappointment of the PS3 owners to the developers? If not, when will you do so?
It is important that the dev team knows that as your company's image depends on the quality of the products they deliver.
No discussion in this thread please guys, just questions. Thanks.
will there be a mission select option and could this mean a choice of say returning to the 40's to freeroam before starting a mission? Thanks for all the answers so far, you've been great
Should I buy Mafia I before I buy Mafia II? Is Mafia I for PS2 only?
Will there be a night time version of the snowy 40s? i heard and seen the daytimes, but not seen night time. Would look epic!
Basically will there be a night time where theres snow for the weather/environment?

The people here will say YES!!!!! but you dont have to but if you like epic stories and games yes.

will it be possible to turn off police chatter? i dont really like it.
A Q above reminded me of a question I had, it's similar to the Q above but not really the same if I understand the Q above properly.
Will the checkpoint save system allow me to load each checkpoint or replay previous missions without having to replay the entire game? If not, will you consider adding this?
This is from that link:

12 Square Miles? I thought Mafia 1 was only 5 square miles?
So here are my questions:
If there is snow ingame, can we expect to see snow plows? (see or Hyjack).
Will the ingame garage support trucks/buses.
will there different traction in rainy/snowy weather compared to dry weather.
