Civilization 5 Multiplayer broken (Help please!)
I'm writing this as I'm sitting waiting for a multiplayer game to finish loading... I just hit the five minute mark and the game still hasn't started.
Everyone was ready, and the host launched it. But all I see is a picture of Atlas (the statue holding the world on his shoulders) and it just sits at this screen forever.
Another time, the game just crashed after we started.
Time before that, it hung at this same loading screen.
I can play single player fine with no issues, but as soon as I try multiplayer, I run into a host of issues.
I'm running the game on a Windows 7 64 bit OS, Geforce 295 GTX with updated drivers, dx10 version, with an intel i7 @ 2.80 GHZ, plenty of space on my high speed 7200 hard drive, and I have no issues running any other multiplayer games. I have DMZ'd (or whatever) my router and can play on my Xbox 360, SC2, pretty much all multiplayer games with no issue and I can also host.
Suggestions, help, or comments are all welcome.
Update: It's now been 15 minutes at the loading screen, I'm going to ctrl+alt+delete the game now.
Update 2: This is on the Steam version of the game.
The best indicator of future performance is past performance. Civ 4 was a nightmare until the warlord was released. Civ 3 was even less usable. Both took hours to get direct ip connected with both games, just a nightmare ( have connected dozens of games, and civ is always a pain). I do not suspect multiplayer will be fixed anytime soon.
Multiplayer has never worked well in any civ game that had the option. Today, with a 1gb lan cable directly connected between two pc's always turns out to be out of sync and waiting to hear 80% of the time. To be honest, it should be considered non-functional until they add a few patches. IT also looks like the multi-player to be reduced down to two options.
To be honest, I would just play the one player version until they release the first few patches.
