    Skipping Opening cinematic difficulties

The opening cinematic is difficult to bypass. Usually, with older games, I hit esc, or any key, and it just goes to the main menu. Not with Civ 5. It just keeps playing. It will randomly go to the main menu, if I am lucky. Usually the game just hangs, or randomly shows my windows task bar, or minimizes even though I am not hitting alt-tab or alt-esc. If there is a shortcut command to bypass the videos for the steam executable, I'm all ears.

If you navigate to the Document > My Games > Civilization V
In here can you open the file UserSettings.ini and then change the line SkipIntroVideo = 0 to SkipIntroVideo = 1 .
Save the file should now skip the opening video when launching the game

We're doing a hefty amount of pre-loading behind the scenes, and it will not let you skip until the pre-load is complete. If you hit "ESC" once while the move is playing, it will skip the rest as soon as the pre-load is completed.

Ditto, turning intro off will still pre-load and eliminate the guesswork why ESC isn't working.

So what damage is done if we do the .ini fix to avoid the opening movie?

It's just a splash screen. It just means you'll be looking at a blank screen while the game loads and maybe think it's hung when it isn't.

I just wish the preloading wouldn't make the movie skip so much...

Could we please get an option to stare at a progress bar, or maybe an artwork gallery instead of watching the beginning of the same movie every time? It gets old really quick.
