    Lightbulb WORKAROUND - Text unreadable

    Hi,
I would like to share the Workaround I set up to try to play Civ 5 until:
    - I've got a Path
    - I'll change my laptop (2017 probably...after the end of the days )

My problem is...the CIV WORLD is ok (it still sucks because of my system...that sucks...so the graphics details are low ) BUT I can see only corrupted fonts everywhere ...

    I noticed that:
    - the smallest character are readable
    - the remanant fonts are UGLY

    SO
    1- I closed CIV 5...
2- I searched in the installation path and I found the FONTS FOLDER (in my system "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\UI\Fonts\Tw Cent MT"). Here there are some TwCenMTXX.ggxml files. Every one (I suppose) manages a font SIZE
3- I created a BACKUP COPY of EVERY set of GGXML fonts
4- The only set of fonts I can see is the smallest (TwCenMT14.ggxml) so I deleted TwCenMT16.ggxml,TwCenMT18.ggxml,TwCenMT20.ggxml,Tw CenMT22.ggxml,TwCenMT24.ggxml (IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY BE SURE YOU'VE SAVED THE ORIGINAL VERSION)
5- I copied TwCenMT14.ggxml 5 TIMES replacing the file name in TwCenMT16.ggxml, TwCenMT18.ggxml and so on
    6- I tried to run CIV 5 ...
7- NOW IT SEEMS TO BE BETTER...not perfect but it is better..so now I'll try it

With this Workaround CIV 5 will use only small size fonts...because every font maps has been configured like TwCenMT14.ggxml.
NEXT STEPs --> First I'll play...maybe I'll try to change other setting cause I noticed TwCenMT14 UPPSERCASE is always ok in my system

I hope 2k games will not punish me for that

If you would like to write me:
    - cockedandloaded@gmail.com
If you stay in Milan (Italy) like me --> tonight I'll play at Barrio's (with my Ramones cover band )

    I hope it helps

    Dani

    Smile Workaround further tweaked

    Thankyou for the workaround!!

I took it a step further and forced the text to be uppercase, which does a lot to make it look nicer, as it seemed the lowercase was mainly garbled after your workaround.

    Not Working 4 me ;-(

I don't know why, but this doesn't change any of my fonts ! And they are all still garbled ?

I have tried using MAfu's files and just renaming the files as suggested, but whenever I start Civ - the words look like crap - and they are still coming out in multiple font sizes ? I can't figure how that can be as by all rights Civ should now only have access to the 14 font - any idea's ???

(using the Directx 9 version of Civ 5 on a lenovo T61, Intel 965, 2GB and Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz)

    Thanks !!

Doesn't work for me, it autochanges the file name to having a (2), (3), (4), (5) so it can't read the file.

Fabulous! Thank you for this! Finally after three hours installing, googling and patching I can start playing the game.
I can't believe that I paid 46 euros for this game!

I found that the refresh rate selected in the game was making the fonts unreadable. When I selected a resolution that used a refresh rate that my desktop was using (and that the monitor was supporting), the fonts became readable.
