I can't manage to get Civilization V playing.

What it does: I start it up through steam (or it's game folder, or a shortcut, nothing works.) it takes a few moments, and then for half a second a small black screen titled something like "Civilization V Direct X 9" and once it's gone, the computer just quits trying to start the game up.

    What I've tried:
    1. Restart Steam.
    2. Restart Computer.
    3. Go the folder and launch the application directly.
    4. Validate integrity of game cache.
    5. Install “DXSetup.exe” from steamapps\common\sid meier’s civilization v\directx and it will resolve all your DirectX problems.
    6. Run in administrator mode.
    7. Reinstall Civilization.

Also when i 'validate integrity of game cache' it repeats this EVERY TIME. "1 files failed to validate and will be reaquired." it supposedly instals the missing file and then i still can't play it. I've even reinstalled the game twice now.

If you've any suggestions for what i can try to do to fix my game, please tell me. I"ll comment to say if any of the suggestions work or not.

    1. Click on Start
    2. Click on Run (In Vista/7 just type dxdiag in the search field)
    3. Type in: dxdiag Hit Enter or OK
    4. Select the button marked as Save All Information and save the text file it creates.
    5. Copy the info and paste it here to share.

It is the Intel chip is your issue

Card name: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family

If you update the driver to the absolute newest, disable all other programs, launch the game in windowed mode, and lower ALL options as low as you can, it MAY work, but again, it may not

I'm sorry but, you're ☺☺☺☺ed, an integrated video card definitely can't run Civ V.

There is going to be a issue with the Video chipset Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family being below the minimum requirements.

Some people have got the game running though latest drivers , dx10/11 mode ,windowed and lowering the graphical settings.

um... where is the service tag? (again, very sorry, i just don't know where it is. And thank you all for helping me this far along!)

oh, and thanks to the game popping up asking me whether to play in Direct X 9 or 11 i can't put it in windowed mode, appearently. or maybe it just still doesn't work, who knows.

Side or Back, or possibly under a flap on the front.

It will be 7 digits long, ending in 1
