  1. Unhappy Long War 2 Defeat! Why? Please help

Was playing on Commander Ironman... Have all major buildings... Have laser weapons... Suits with grapples... 5 or 6 contolled regions... 700$ per month income Was infiltrating one mission to get officer corpse to produce skulljack and suddenly got message where Speaker told about success of Elders and then info message that I defeated (after 17 missions). Why?? or even ☺☺☺????? I didnt see any scale of Avatar project progress or something like this! Why that happened? How to avoid that? What did I wrong?

When you say you had 5-6 controlled regions, you didn't really control them. They were still generating missions and you were still getting attacked, right?

It doesn't work quite like the base game and expanding as quickly as possible probably isn't the best tactic (although I just lost again, I've gotten further).

Your first objective is to liberate a region (probably the home one). To do this you need to go for missions labelled "find a lead". These have a chance (maybe 50/50) of starting the liberation chain of missions for that region only. Subsequent ones are just labelled "liberation", usually a rescue VIP and Dark VIP. Then you get the 2 set piece missions which are obvious. Completing these reveals the doom counter (which activates about same time as base game, but is hidden) and the Black site.

Put most, if not all your resistance people on intel in the region you want to liberate and scan at that site (worth another 4)n to detect missions early. Try to do it fairly quickly as advent strength will start ramping up. Obviously, you still need to equip your people and do other important missions. You'll also be infiltrating all your best troops with all your best equipment for some time for the last one.

"Find a lead" missions with "intel packet" as a reward give you either a random scanning site on the map, or a facility lead once the doom counter is revealed. Facility leads aren't quite like the base game either. They reveal a facility on the map, but you have to contact the region. They are the only way to find them.

    Loads of discussion here:

Commander Ironman is a really high level to start with though. I could do base game Legendary Ironman if I got a decent start, but LW Veteran is spanking me even if I restart bad missions. Don't expect to steamroller everything once you get to mag weapons and a few ammo upgrades. As well as generally tougher enemies, all the permanent tactical dark events really stack up. Frankly, it's hard as nails.

u are playing with the latest LW2 patch I assume.

yeah, the new patch screwed alot.

    no doom counter.
team gone missing in infiltration when mission disappeared
    etc..
in my current LW2 game, the codex would not appear!
I already did the gateway but I need to skulljack a codex to progress through the story. I already have all the research and top level gears but codex wont come out!

I already have everything built. all regions contacted. everything. each mission I checked with shadowchamber where codex comes out, but its just freakin no show.

  4. Man, you are right I got missions every second from several hours to infiltrate to 11 says with different objects

Thanks for your comments. But imagine there are no forums with advices - where shall we (players) find the rules of objects of the game?

Inside game only general i fo and NO info at all about liberation missions

point of me asking re latest patch is:
    1. do you see the doom counter counting? no more right? so how can you prevent it counting if you dont know where it is already.
    2. And in my case, i am far far ahead of the troop development and research and everything, but the story would not progress. so how will i counter anything if it wont give me the story based events.

i really like LW2.. the 8 classes not so much - too redundant. I went back to playing vanilla until they fix it up.

  7. Man, I do not see Avatar progress yet, but one guy at Steam community told me that Avatar will appear only after total liberation of one region

Will see, have 2 dots of liberation at the moment, so cant argue

    total liberation means?
    a) all country in a region with contact?
    b) all country in a region with tower?
    c) all country in the world with tower?

because, I am currently at C where I have all regions and each region have commnication towers. and I still could not get that black site let alone codex to hack to get avatar.

the game ended as a loss because I could not get any progress in the game!

I repeated the game created a new game and i already got a full pack of sparks, everything done and still no stupid black site

when they said Long War is long, they should instead call it "Looooooooooooooooooooooooooong War"

    a) no
    b) no
    c) no

What I am calling a region, you are calling a country.

You need to liberate 1 country. You can do it before you contact any others, before even researching resistance comms (if you really want).

You need to complete the liberation chain of missions. Each country has a separate chain of liberation missions, so you need to concentrate on one country at a time. Obviously you can still go for other mission as needed.

There are 5 liberation missions per country.

I think this is about right, but the wording might be slightly different. The first 3 aren't spoiling too much to read. If you miss one or fail one, a new one should be generated before too long.

    Mission 1:
    Objective: Find a Lead
I think always a Guerilla Ops data hack mission. Completing it only has a chance of unlocking the next one. Maybe 50/50.

    Mission 2:
    Objective: Liberation: Rescue a defector
City map mission for engineer, scientist or soldier, usually in a van. Completing it always unlocks the next mission.

    Mission 3:
    Either
    Objective: Liberation: Destroy a Relay.
Guerilla Ops Relay mission. Perhaps a bit tougher.
    or
    Objective: Liberation: Neutralise Advent VIP.
City map assassination mission. Definitely a bit tougher. Capture the VIP for a handy +1 resistance contacts.

Completing it immediately makes the next mission available and attracts a lot of attention.

The next two are obvious when you see them and definitely more of spoiler. Once unlocked you can do them whenever you are ready. But best not to wait too long as Advent strength will be getting high.

    Mission 4:
    Objective: Secure the Network Tower.
Base game penultimate mission. Once unlocked you can take this whenever you like, although Advent strength will be building fast, so best to hit as soon as you can.

    Mission 5:
    Objective: Assault Regional HQ.
Huge map. Tonnes of loot. Tonnes of Advent.
As a wise man once said:

PS. Seriously? You contacted every country? How did you do that before losing the game? I'm impressed. It's completely the wrong way to play it, but I'm still impressed.

Yes, I contacted and build communication towers on all regions. once I got my alpha team all leveled and equipped, I basically skipped all non-essential missions (or so I thought), and concentrated only on missions that I can bring bodies back (in case I have to fight codex or rulers).

as far as doing those 5 mission types you listed, I am sure I have done those very early in the game when I need to do all the encounters to level up the soldiers.

i will redo another playthrough from start for the 5th time. this is getting dumb boring shooting at advents and snakes and mecs and mutons...

Correction: re those 5 mission types.
I now remembered NOT getting the 4th and 5th mission type.
As for Mission type 1,2,3, yeah I have made several of them. But I never get to receive mission 4,5.
Perhaps this is because I expanded to another continent instead of the current continent. Early on, I had 4 regions and all of them on 4 different continents (Asia, then to US, Europe, Australia - something like that)
And when I did just that, maybe I did missions 1~3 on several continents but never all of them in one continent.
And later on, I only did missions that I can bring bodies back - (Raids).

    Long War 2 Defeat! Why?
Because you are a LW2 tester (as all others) -)

  12. dude, sorry for late response! Guys from Steam community told me that total liberation was only if you would finish 5 liberations missions (description of them is based at www.ufoediedia.com)

  13. LOL. Thank you for support lol. Bro, I wish you could give us (testers) link to rules/guidelines before we start. Now I realize that I have to read a lot of info on reddit, Steam, ufopedia and other forums

  14. Man, I am with you. I did the same mistakes and started LW2 6 or 7 times... Keep fighting!
