    GotW weekly spoilers

    GotW French 2017.03.26

Strategy based on walk-in (via sea), then AW + 7cog. I did 400 BC Cultural. For Dom 2000 BC was easy (2300 BC maybe possible by brute force 2x 18 vs 27).

3900 BC settle next to barbs
    3700 BC galley from barbs
    3400 BC Athens + IW
    2900 BC Delhi, spy, 12 vs 8, 8 vs 6?
    2600 BC AW
2500 BC Medieval Era, Republic, 250g from 7cog
    2100 BC Washington walk-out 8 vs 8
2000 BC Lit + (CoL?) + Banking from huts
1700 BC Ind + Corp from huts
1100 BC Iron Mine (later GS for Communism)
    400 BC Cultural V

    GotW Indians 2017.04.02

Strategy based on veteran from barbs, then bonusses: Religion from Medieval and settlers for 10h from Industrial. I did 600 BC Cultural - insane score. 1900 BC Dom was easy (i didn't).

3600 BC settle next to barbs via river, Warrior vs barbs veteran + 50g
3200 BC WA vs Thebes 4.5 vs 8, blitz
3100 BC Thebes + IW (3200 was possible but AA 30 in Madrid ...)
1st LA BIM to Athens, 2nd LA on galley to Madrid
    2400 BC Fundamentalism, 18 vs 12, 12 vs 9, 18 vs 8, 12 vs 8, 2 vs 0, Madrid + Nav
    2300 BC Athens + Demo
2200 BC CoL + Lit from huts, 3 techs from Atlantis
    2100 BC Industrial Era
    1800 BC settlers from Germans
1600 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    1100 BC Iron Mine
    600 BC Cultural V.

    GotW Arabs 2017.04.09

Strategy based on bad luck, only 1 hut, HG in Thebes AA 24 or 30 at 3300 BC, i lost all battles 18 vs 24. I did 50 AD Technology V. Maybe i will do 1800 BC Dom (walk-out) or 2200 BC (brute force, hard to win 18 vs 24, ~10 seeds).

3700 BC settle next to barbs
    caravan to Berlin, sell Rel (3600 A 7 or 3500 A 6)
    3400 BC WA 6 vs A 6 or 7 (important for AA 30 or 24)
    3300 BC Berlin + IW
1st LA to Kyoto (due to AW), 2nd LA to Thebes
    2400 BC Kyoto + HBR, spy, 13.5 vs 8, 9 vs 6
    2300 BC Thebes, walk-out, 9 vs 6
    2200 BC AW
    2100 BC Republic
1800 BC GB from 150c (later for EIC)
    1100 BC Ind from hut
later GA, GE, GS and GS from Zulu
GS for Electronics, GS for Space F.
    50 AD Technology V.

Strategy based on walk-in + CoL + IW from Thebes. Other strategies are possible: CoL + expanding (from 2800 BC, problem with lack of cities ~37 only, strat for ~200 AD), walk-in + HBR (big problem with gold, strat for ~200 AD). I did 50 AD Technology V. (Deity). As for Dom 1900 BC looks perfect due walk-outs (i didn't).

    3600 BC Rome + CoL
3000 BC buy IW from Thebes, sell techs, 101g
1st LA to Thebes, 2nd LA to Tripoli, both on galleys
    2400 BC Republic, LA vs Thebes 12 vs 7, 12 vs 7
    2300 BC (6 vs 4), 12 vs 6, 12 vs 6
    2200 BC Thebes, 12 vs 0
    2100 BC Lit from hut
    2000 BC Tripoli + Rel 9 vs 6
    1800 BC settlers from London
    1300 BC Ind from hut
    1200 BC Democracy, ~35 cities, later 56
later GB as 1st GP, GB for EIC
    GS for Space Flight
    50 AD Technology V.

    GotW Zulu 2017.04.23

Zulu on island. Strategy based on warriors + AW (usually 100g setters on galley - not this week). I posted 50 AD Technology V (really 0 AD, 100 BC was possible but useless due to 50 AD as max, production city max 46 hammers - extremely slow so BC non-dom was possible with 1 GB or 2 GB). As for Dom: 1900 BC was easy (walk-out, i didn't, Pipe did 2000 BC - probably forced walkout 75g at 2200 BC for Egyptians).

3900 BC settle next to barbs
3700 BC Warrior vs barbs, retreat
    3600 BC 0.34 vs 0.17, 50g, W1 on galley
caravan to Kyoto, W1 vs barbs 0.34 vs 0.5, 0.5 vs 0.5 blitz
    3100 BC 4.5 vs 8, Kyoto + IW + CB
    (note: it's crazy but it's possible much easier 1 vs 0.5 40g, heal, 1 vs 0.5, 0.67 vs 0.5, 4.5 vs 6)
galley to AW, 1st HA to Berlin then Thebes
    2600 BC AW
    2500 BC Republic
    2400 BC 9 vs 7, 9 vs 6
    2300 BC Berlin
    2000 BC Thebes 9 vs 6 walk-out
    (2nd way is: 2500 BC 9 vs 7 9 vs 6, heal, later Thebes 12 vs 6)
1900 BC Lit + Curr from huts
    1500 BC Ind from hut
    1400 BC Democracy
400 BC GS for Space Flight

    GotW Mongols 2017.04.30

Strategy based on walk-in + LA (+ ... temple - usually useless). I did 200 BC Cultural V., not so easy due to 3 mountains only and AW (no SoC, no AoC, temple needed for 1st GP). As for Dom as usually i did nothing but 2200 BC looks possible (by brute force or forced walk-out).

3800 BC settle next to barbs
    3700 BC Warrior vs barbs
    3600 BC 2x forest blocked
3500 BC caravan to Kyoto, Kyoto + CB + IW
    2700 BC 1st LA vs Tripoli 9 vs 8, 6 vs 6
    2600 BC Tripoli + Religion
2500 BC Fundamentalism, 2nd LA (from hill) vs Paris 18 vs 8, 6 vs 6 gg
    2400 BC 7.5 vs 6, 7.5 vs 4 (yes 4 archers with no gold + 2 L), 6 vs 0, Paris + Pottery
    2300 BC CoL+Lit+Curr from huts
    2100 BC AW
1500 BC Ind + Corp from huts (last hut too far), rush temple (3-pop)
    1400 BC Democracy ~40 cities, later 61
    900 BC Iron Mine, 64h / 1 turn
GS+GL from Beijing (later 21/20 cultural milestones)
    200 BC Cultural V.

Strategy based on walk-in + LA + 7cog + CoL from Romans. I did 500 BC Cultural V. (o777o, Deity), again slow production city. As for Dom as usually i did nothing but 2500 BC looks possible (i don't know - no AA possible or not) or 2400 BC brute force with Knights.

    25g (+ 10g by peace)
    3600 BC Berlin + IW
    3100 BC 1st LA vs Karakorum 9 vs 8, 6 vs 7
    3000 BC Karakorum
2900 BC 2nd LA from hill vs Rome 12 vs 8, 8 vs 8, Great General
2800 BC 7cog 250g, buy CoL for 150g, sell techs, 6? vs 6, Infiltration, Rome
1800 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    1700 BC Democracy, AoC
    1200 BC production city is ready (4 x hill + OAK + 5x forest + Engin, 64h)
    500 BC Cultural V.

    GotW Romans 2017.05.14

Strategy based on horses + 7cog (this week on mainland). I did 700 BC Cultural V. (o777o, Deity) and 2300 BC Dom (brute force vs Germans on island).
Note: 2nd strategy is possible (without war) - buy 2 or 3 techs, research HBR, Alph, expanding from 3200 BC (or earlier). Still very fast BC victories.

3800 BC settle next to barbs
    3700 BC militia to hut
    3600 BC caravan to 7cog 200g
    3500 BC 50g from barbs
    3400 BC HBR
3300 BC caravan to Zimbabwe, sell CoL (later HBR)
    3200 BC Zimbabwe + BW, 6 vs 6, 1 vs 0
2nd HA BIM to Paris, 1st HA to barbs (blitz) then Moscow
    2800 BC 12 vs 8, 12 vs 2
    2700 BC (3 vs 3), 7.5 vs 7, caravan to Paris, Paris + Pott
    real start of expanding
2400 BC Moscow, walk-out 9 vs 6, Lit from hut
    {for Dom: 2400 BC Mon + Rel from huts, LA vs Berlin 22.5 vs 24 - i lost, 11.2 vs 8, 11.2 vs 4, 6 vs 2, 6 vs 0}
1800 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    1100 BC production city is ready 76 h / 1 turn
    700 BC Cultural V.

Kadera, on average, how many trials do you go through to find the optimal GOTW sequence? I assume that it has decreased over time and that now it is relatively small given the sheer number of times you have done this.

I never counted it. Probably about 20-25.

    This week:
-3 runs (~15 minutes) for settlers to uncover mainland
-1 run (~1 hour) to uncover islands and villages
-10 runs (~30-40 min) to win 6 vs 6 vs Zulu - bad luck! (usually 2 runs to win 6 vs 6 or 3 runs to win 6 vs 8)
-3 runs (~15 min) for upgrades for HA
-3 runs (~30 min) to take Paris
-4 runs (~1,5h) to take Moscow
    -1 run for 700 BC (~2,5 h).

    But:
-little faster = much more runs
-some runs can be removed (1 run to uncover 100% of map)
-this week easy strategy (for BC) based on 7cog and Medieval needs 2 runs.

Is there a good thread that fully explores experimentation with walkout strategies? Does it basically involve selling them CoL and techs until they expand and give you easy settlers to capture? Or is there more to it? I have often wondered how effective using spies and settlers as bait can be against the AI.

Appreciate the honesty. Sometimes people think top scores are possible with 1-2 runs, this is simply fallacious/misleading. It takes genuine time investment. I'm always shocked by your BC cultural victories. Do you have a YouTube link for one of those? Learning is the best aspect of this game & based on your results, I think there is still plenty to learn for me. Post here or just PM me, I'd appreciate it.

    thanks & best regards...

Thanks so much for the information. I have read your GOTW strategies over the years and they have changed my approach to playing. While I will never approach your scores (I only allow one play for each victory style) your insights have challenged me to analyse each game far more critically than I would have done on my own.

Use search. Normal walk-out is based on year (usually 2100-1800 BC). Forced walk-out is based on 100g settlers. Sell/buy or meet AI or send caravan - methods to changing year (sometimes, for expample Russian walk-out at 2400 BC - only if you are not so close).

Often possible (especially last week with Romans). Impossible against top players.

    GotW Egyptians 2017.05.21

Strategy based on horses + 7cog (Oracle important for London). I did 100 BC Cultural V. - production city is very slow, GS wasted, last GP too, Modern Era and also no +1-pop from Irrigation. For Dom i did 1900 BC with Knights (due to walk-out).

3800 BC settle next to barbs, Oracle
    3600 BC caravan to Tenochtitlan
3400 BC 200g from 7cog (later sell techs)
    3200 BC HA vs A 6 vs 6, vet
    3100 BC 4.5 vs 6 call off
    3000 BC caravan 50g, 9 vs 6, 2 vs 0, Tenochtitlan + IW
2600 BC HA vs London 9 vs 12, then call off
    2500 BC 12 vs 12, London + nothing
2300 BC CoL + Lit from huts
    {for Dom: 2300 BC Mon + Feud from huts, later Rel, 2000 BC Kyoto 30 vs 27, Zimbabwe 22.5 vs 6}
1500 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    600 BC GS for Communism
    100 BC Cultural V.

Looks like the key trick is saving the huts for popping key/critical techs & beelining for Indust/Corp while expanding like a maniac (52 cities I think at end). The way you tweaked your tech/gold/culture watermarks was a work of art. There's a lot in that video, good stuff. Thanks Kadera.

    1300 BC Iron Mine

Strategy based on walk-in + LA + roads + 7cog + Nav + SoC. I did 1100 BC Cultural V. and Economic V. (for Cultural 10000g is critical, for Economic 2nd GB). Pipe did 3000 BC Dom (for Dom Karakorum on island is critical).

3900 BC settle next to barbs

Nice job K... I never could get the scientist and the builder from school of Confucius. I could only get a builder, so I had to save the hut for corporation. I used the great pyramid from AW for republic. Double anarchy cost me two turns and I lost the other one just because I'm not as good as you ...So I only did 800 bc cultural.I will post spoiler for 3000 BC Dom Saturday

Why two? Should be one (due to Republic, usually Feudalism or Demo it's not 1 turn). GS was critical but i tested 6 seeds to get GB+GS. With GS only 1000 BC looks possible (maybe GB is needed later or 990 BC will be possible).

EDIT: Pipe forgot about spoiler for 3000 BC (obviously similar to my opening but 100g settlers NW not W).
    3700 BC ... 100g settlers go to barbs/Moscow (NW)
1st LA BM to Moscow, 2nd LA to Tenchotitlan, Galleon to AW, roads for 100g
    3400 BC Moscow 9 vs 8
    3200 BC Tenochtitlan 9 vs 8
    3100 BC Karakorum (13.5 vs 8, 9 vs x, 1 vs 0)

Strategy based on WA + AW. I did 300 BC Cultural V. For Dom 1900 BC is easy - walk-outs + AW (faster with brute force 22.5 vs 27).

3900 BC settle next to barbs
    3700 BC retreat instantly
    3600 BC 50g from barbs
    3400 BC WA vs A 4.5 vs 7 (4.5 vs 5 possible too), Paris + IW + Pottery
    2900 BC 12 vs 8, 8 vs 8
2800 BC Delhi + HBR (possible 2900 BC but i needs more gold)
2300 BC AW (possible at 2400 but i needs more gold)
2200 BC Republic, Literacy from hut
    2100 BC SoC
    2000 BC Tenochtitlan, walk-out, 15 vs 6
    {for Dom - i didn't but: 2000 BC Tenochtitlan 18 or 13.5 vs 6, Zimbabwe 22.5 vs 8}
1500 BC Ind + Corp from huts (29 cities!)
    900 BC Iron Mine, 78h / 1 turn
    300 BC Cultural V.

Strategy based on HA + AW (i tried with WA but i lost all battles 4.5 vs 8). AI's luck is crazy and no walk-outs (except Germans), i lost 11 battles 18 vs 27 (5 times they wasn't wounded, 5 times wounded to 18, it's 18 vs 27 not 4 vs 27!). I did 150 AD Technology V. and 1700 BC Dom.

3800 BC settle next to barbs, militia wait then go to Washington (via 10g)
3600 BC Warriors vs barbs (via river) 0.5 vs 0.5 vet
    3300 BC 1 vs 0.5
    3200 BC 1 vs 0.5, sell W1, caravan to Washington, 106g
    3100 BC HBR, 100g city
    3000 BC HA vs A 6 vs 8
    2900 BC 4.5 vs 8, blitz, Washington + BW
2500 BC AW (for Dom later, 2nd HA is needed)
    2100 BC Republic
    1800 BC Berlin (walk-out and walk-in)
    {for Dom 2100 BC Fundam, HA vs Kyoto 18 vs 27}
    {2000 BC Kyoto, road to 2nd Mongol city}
    {1800 BC Karakorum 18 vs 8, 18 vs 8, 22.5 vs 2}
1000 BC Nav from hut (that was scouting run, i tested tech from hut possible or not, continued only due to 3 GS+GB)
    900 BC GS for Ind
100 BC GS for Space Flight
    150 AD Technology V.

Strategy based on walk-in (Nav) + Atlantis. I did 1600 BC Cultural V. For Dom i did nothing, 2600 BC looks possible and very hard, Bombers (GS+GB are needed) or Knights from galleon and HA (18 vs 24). 2500 BC is easy (KA 30 vs 24, 30 vs 8).

    4000 BC 25g
3800 BC settle next to 2nd barbs, GB for galley, militia go towards 10g
3600 BC buy BW, Madrid + Nav, W2 vs barbs, caravan go to Moscow
    3500 BC galleon to Atlantis
    3400 BC Medieval Era
3000 BC buy IW from Delhi, sell techs, Kyoto 9 vs 7
2900 BC CoL from hut, 19 cities + 2 settlers
2700 BC Banking + Ind + Corp from huts, SoC, 38 cities (later 67 cities)
note: it's not good for gold (2600 BC is better), i lost many cities, but it's critical for production city
    2200 BC 2000g, Iron Mine, production city 58 h / 1 turn, rush EIC
    1800 BC Modern Era, Communism, 135 h / 1 turn
    1600 BC Cultural V.

Strategy based on walk-in + galley + 7cog&AW. I did 700 BC Cultural V. For Dom i did nothing, maybe 2600 BC is possible, 2300 BC should be not hard (due to walk-out).

    3900 BC 25g
3700 BC settle next to barbs, W1 vs barbs 50g, militia go towards 10g
3400 BC galley go towards 7cog & AW, buy IW, Athens + Demo
    3100 BC 200g from 7cog
    2800 BC Fundamentalism, LA vs Beijing 13.5 vs 2, 18 vs 8
    2700 BC Beijing + Writing, 18? vs 8
2600 BC CoL + Lit from huts (later Nav & Banking)
    2400 BC Washington walk-out 12 vs 8
2000 BC Ind + Corp + Inven + Steam from huts
note: 22 cities only, usually it's useless (3 turns wasted for techs), but this week i have Demo and Steam for free
1700 BC GB for EIC (not important, 700 BC possible without GB)
    1400 BC production city 82h / 1 turn
    700 BC Cultural V.

This week no walk-in is better (London is too far, walk-in isn't good). Strategy based 7cog + horses. I did 600 BC Cultural V and 1900 BC Dom (due to walk-out).

Strategy based on Religion + AW. Small mainland, problem with cities. I did 200 BC Cultural V. For Dom i did nothing, 2000 BC is not hard (walk-out, i tried once but i lost 18 vs 30, 13.5 vs 20, 13.5 vs 20), maybe faster with 100g settlers.

3500 BC 10g, settle next to barbs (close to Kyoto), sell Rel, W1 vs barbs
3400 BC caravan to Kyoto, caravan to Berlin, sell Rel
3300 BC 100g city, rush galley from Tripoli

This week i set new record: expanding for 400 years (Americans are faster), from 5 cities at 2600 BC to 28 cities at 2200 BC (32 at 2100 BC, later ~61). Possible due to 7cog + 4 caravans (50+20g) + 3 caravans (75+25g) and more.

Island start. Strategy based on galley + 7cog + horses. I did 800 BC Cultural V. For Dom i did nothing, 2300 BC is not hard (Russian walk-out at 2400 BC), 2600 BC is hard (15 vs 21 and more) or 2500 BC easier with Religion.

    4000 BC N
3900 BC settle, Warrior vs barbs 50g
    3600 BC 200g from 7cog, Berlin + IW
    3500 BC HBR
    3200 BC Thebes + BW, 12 vs 8, 12 vs 8, 2 vs 0
    2700 BC Athens, 12 vs 12, 12 vs 10.5, 3 vs 0
2600 BC CoL + Lit from huts
    2500 BC Banking from hut
    2300 BC settlers from Russians
2200 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    2100 BC Democracy
2000 BC Irrigation, GP from 150c (151/150 - very hard)
    1900 BC Construction
(note: usually it's useless, too fast expanding, i lost 8 cities but 151/150 and Constr gave me University and Steam P possible in 1 turn and ~1150g saved - no Leonardo's W. to rush)
    1500 BC Iron Mine, soon 68 h / 1 turn
    800 BC Cultural V.

Strategy based on walk-in. Really annoying week, English and Chinese are going straight to AA, i also lost 6 battles in row 3x 9 vs 8, 3x 12 vs 8. Finally i found way to attack Beijing before AA (every move is dangerous, even very far). I did 400 BC Cultural V. Also 2300 BC Dom - perfect from my opening (designed for non-dom, i can see 2500 BC - probably impossible due to AA at 2900 BC in London).

    3900 BC 10g
    3600 BC Tenochtitlan + IW
    3000 BC LA vs London 9 vs 9, gg, 8 vs 7.5
    2900 BC London + BW + Monarchy
    2700 BC buy Writing, sell techs. Beijing 12 vs 8, 4 vs 7, 1 vs 0
2600 BC CoL - researched, Lit from hut
1600 BC Ind + Corp from huts
    1000 BC Iron Mine, 64 h / 1 turn
    800 BC Communism, 96 h
    400 BC Cultural V.
    for Dom:
2600 BC Navigation + Feudalism from huts
    2400 BC Madrid 24 vs 8, 24 vs 8, 0.5 vs 0
(note: 30 vs 8 and still no overrun! It's not 3x for Zulu, it's 4x, 32 vs 8 will be OK)

This week i found French walk-out at 2600 BC! They builds A, A, L, settlers. So far 2400 BC was world record (Russians, Spanish, Germans), only 3-pop cities was faster (Thebes + HG 2700 BC).

    Strategy based on walk-in + horses + 7cog + Religion. I did 400 BC Cultural V. Also 2200 BC Dom - perfect from my opening but i can see 2400 BC (maybe impossible 18 vs 24, 18 vs 27).

3600 BC settle next to barbs (militia go to 10g then hut), warrior to Arab forest
    3500 BC Tripoli + Religion
    3100 BC 200g from 7cog, HBR
    2700 BC Fundamentalism, HA vs Madrid 13.5 vs 8, 6.75 vs 7
    2600 BC buy Pottery, Madrid + Nav, Paris walk-out 18 vs 8
2400 BC CoL + Lit + Curr from huts
1500 BC Ind + Corp from huts
1400 BC Democracy, Irrigation from hut, AoC
    1000 BC Iron Mine, 66 h / 1 turn
700 BC Communism, 99 h (later Constr + Workshop, SoC)
    400 BC Cultural V.
    for Dom:
2400 BC Feudalism from hut, road to 1-pop city
    2300 BC 100g city, road, Thebes KA vs AA 31 vs 27, 7.5 vs 5, 7.5 vs 0
