I don't personally use it, but my brother does... PLUS, support for it doesn't really affect me in any shape or form if I decide not to use it, so why not?
This is off to a decent start! lets hope it continues. Shoudl we set goals for the petition? What we would like to see it reach? at least 100, 500, 1000, 10000
GOD DAMMIT!!!! know i know what the ****ING gremlins feel like when they stand in sunlight!!!!!!!!11111one
Bump bump bump it up!
I for one would love for 2k to add xbox 360 controller support in an update. I had the xbox 360 version reserved until I thought about it and realized it would be a better investment to buy it on PC where it would look better and I would still be able to use my gamepad. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered they removed support for the gamepad...
I regret buying this game for PC now. I work in Africa 10 months out of the year. I dont have the money or space to pack a Xbox and PC along with everything else I will need while I am there. Sure i have a USB mouse but having to use the keyboard on a laptop sucks. I know some of you will say dont play on a laptop, they arent very powerful.... This will work....Sager NP9280...i7 965... 12GB DDR3....Corsair SSD RAID0....500 GB Barracuda...GTX 280M.
Add the patch please, its back to Borderlands untill I leave out with some more good games in hand.
I suggest everyone who wants a quick fix head over and download the trial for Pinnacle Profiler and the BioShock 2 profile. This program uses your joypad to emulate keyboard and mouse presses and someone has already developed a profile for BioShock 2.
Pinnacle website and info: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/
Download the trial here (Currently in beta but works fine): http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com/...etup-beta5.exe
Small patch for the beta: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/file...nualupdate.zip
And finally grab and import the BioShock 2 profile here: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/foru...ad.php?t=12847
Hope this helps out a few people who were disappointed with no joypad support!
There is a lot of conversation on the Steam forums about this too. It was a huge mistake not to have gamepad support for this game. It just smacks of laziness and stupidity.
Dev A: "How many Windows people even have controllers?"
Dev B: "I don't know, probably not many and they would get owned in the awesome MP anyway, let's cut it."
Marketing A: "Sounds good, we'll just say that we focused on awesome WASD controls, people love hunching over the keyboard a foot from the screen anyway"
Players A - Z: "No controller support? Argh!"
So I signed the petition with the text below. I couldn't figure out how to view the petition or the arguments made by the other signers so I decided to cross post here.
Please keep the comments smart and logical (build a case and make suggestions on how to fix them, don't just whine) and make them sound like they were written with a clear head![]()
I fully understand there's major development work required to put Xbox 360 Controller for Windows support back in there, new control scheme and all (e.g. dual-wielding of plasmid + weapon). I would hope 2K could come up with something that puts bare-bones support back in, throw it at the community as a BETA patch and surely we are brimming with very willing gamers who will beta-test for you (just look at the 2K forums and the number of those who will do this for you for free!! Call it open-crowd-sourcing if you must. I'll be the first to sign up.) We are not contesting that keyboard & mouse control is more accurate, but the two major sticking points are that (1) controller support was excellent in BioShock and you can't give something like that and take it away just like that when it's a major selling point of the first game; (2) with the increasing adoption of HDTVs, plus the amazing graphics that's in the game just practically begging to be exploited with DirectX 10 on a huge display, plus the rumble that's so integral into the playing experience, I would argue that dropping controller support was a hasty decision made by 2K, and that's fine. I'm sure it made sense at the time the decision was made (in the same vein the DRM decision was made, and turned out to be a kerfuffle - I mean that not in a snide way). I'm sure 2K is composed of smart people who listen to the community that supports, and is as passionate as they are with the BioShock series, so here's hoping that all the reaction to the lack of controller support makes a strong case to reconsider the original decision to drop controller support. Just think of the many gamers and reviewers who will go back to BioShock 2 time and time again as *the game* to go to when you need a demo that combines great story (even greater than the original), great multi-player support (which the original lacked), great GFWL integration (the original also lacked this) and great controller support as there was in the first BioShock - that would immortalize BioShock 2 even more so than the original BioShock was.

I am so happy how well this has gone so well. For those of you that have brought up the steam forums, can you pots it over there? i dont use steam much, so i get lost over there pretty easily. When you do post it can you link here so we can go over there and keep fresh. also link to this thread. I really hope this gets 2K's attention and we can get this to happen. Lets continue to spread the word. I have posted a link to it on my myspace, facebook, bioshock 2 facebook page, and twitter. If everyone could do this as well it would spread very quickly. If those of you are on any other forum and they are dicussing this, send it out! Lets make this happen guys. We are doing so well!

I tried it with Pinnacle Profiler. The mouse emulation just isn't the same as joystick freelook. It has a very "square" pattern when I rotate the stick in a circle. This might seem minor, but in practice it's not.
Oh well, Borderlands is still firmly holding my attention, and it has 360 pad support.
Has anyone reported this to Kotaku and Shacknews yet? I think it's significant enough to get coverage, and when they speak for the people, developers and publishers seem to listen.
Thanks for the update! Maybe they will fix it? I havent reported it to Kotaku or Shacknews. So if someone else has or wants to, go for it! let us know how it goes and give us some links. I just posted a new thread on igns board for this as well.
http://boards.ign.com/bioshock/b8010/189272538/p1/
Lets see how this works out! I hope this becomes the number one concern for people. and the thing at the top 2ks to do list, assuming there are no game destroying bugs or something like that.
this guy says he has a workaround for now. check it out.

I havent tried it yet, the misses says it bed time. but i will tomorrow. let me know if it works for any of yall out there. This may have to do. theres another thread on here, apparently from the tech support forum. i suggest a good reading, i also asked them to join us on this one.
Here the petition again. Lets try and keep it on every page.

I seriously wish I'd known this before I pre-ordered this game via steam as I wouldn't have even bought it. You totally tricked us 2K and I'm not happy about this at all.
/signed... man, what a horrible decision.
this breaks my heart...big time.
this definitely take off major points for bioshock 2
i can play with a mouse and keyboard, but taking a feature out mid series is just a terrible decision.
I thought Bioshock was the best game ever, not only because of the gameplay/story but also because of the options available. Mainly the option to use the 360 controller that switched up the complete interface. It was perfect. It basically became a 360 plus graphics options. I loved it. All the more reason why i considered it the best game this generation has seen.
The excuse to focus on better mouse/kb just doesnt cut it for me. Something must have gone wrong in-house, there no way this was a well-thought out decision. It just doesnt make sense for me. I jumped on the PC bandwagon when i learned most G4W games supported the controller. Crysis also did a good job to support the controller and had an option to disable 360 controller users in multiplayer.
sighs...major letdown
might i add, keyboards only allow a few keys to be pressed down simultaneously.

Below are various postings from forum members about how mouse and keyboard are superior to gamepad. THEY ARE NOT!!!!!!!! On PC I have played the Alien Verse Predator Demo with a Xbox 360 controller and have come in first place countless amounts of times with all 3 classes of characters. I have killed many equal level characters in Arena and Duels in Borderlands on PC using an Xbox 360 controller. These Supreme Members are disgusting in the way they praise the mouse and keyboard. It wouldn't surprise me if these Supreme Members are 2k employees. Please 2k you added support for Borderlands for the 360 controller even Bioshock 1 had support for the 360 controller? Please patch this soon. Feel free to read the snob like comments of the Supremes.

Chances are, if a gamer is so dependent on gamepads, they'll have a console.
If you're sitting in front of the TV and using a gamepad, it's basically the same thing.

There are third-party applications you can use so that Bio2 will be playable with a controller. Try XPadder.
I'm glad that they are focusing on improving the mouse/keyboard support. The last game had terrible mouse control.

What physical disability could you possibly have that makes keyboard and mouse untenable but makes gamepads preferable?
Wow, unformatted walls of text for the loss.
As I understand it, your kind is a minority. More importantly, gamepads are hardly essential. Most importantly, why would you play BioShock 2 on the PC if not for the vastly superior mouse and keyboard control scheme?

Yeah that's the single best thing about pc gaming and considering all the "issues" with the pc version you may as well just play it on a console if you're going to use a gamepad.

There's no competition between gamepads and mouse/keyboards when it comes to FPS. Even most console gamers admit that.
Ok so i tried the workaround mentioned here: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...d=1#post637560
here is what i had to say about it.
so we have temp fix. i probably did something wrong when doing mine. i recommend other try and see how it goes. its a step in the right direction for us to be able to enjoy this game with everyone else. remember keep it positive and do not be angry at 2K. Im sure they have their reasons for doing. Hopefully, if they are as good of a company as i believe them to be they will listen and help and fix this as quickly as they can. I know they have a lot of issues on the tech side of things. so maybe when they patch those they will throw in our controller support. but we need to let them know this is what we want/need. that this is not a passing fad or just something to complain about. this is about WANTING to play to game.
I just signed up to this board for the sole reason to request 360 pad support in Bioshock 2. Thanks.
did the sign the petition as well? heres a link for it?

Josh -
I assure you those members are in fact real fans. And I implore all of you, pro-gamepad or pro-keyboard, to keep this conversation civil. Please don't use unnecessary font size - I can read at regular size just fine. And please don't let this devolve into a "what is better" thread. We all have preferences, and those are fine, but keep the conversation respectful.
"please don't let this devolve into a "what is better" thread. We all have preferences"
Obviously, the gamepad "preference" didn't figure in and mouse/kb was deemed "better" as the gamepad support was gutted, which just doesn't cut it for AAA game releases anymore.
i 100% agree! this is a very important issue to me as it is to others as well. We all want to be able to play this game in the most enjoyable way possible. There is no need to get angry or rude. lets keep letting 2K know how we feel, in a proper mature way. i believe they want whats best for us, and we need to hope that they will deliver on that. 2KLiz has been on here all day answering all of our questions and addressing our concerns. Lets just hope we all win, and to win means to play the game.
Do 2K forget who decides how to enjoy the game?
it's not 2K, but users.
Just please bring back pad control!
Your forum should not allow large font size as an option if don't want to see it. But I seem to have gotten your attention. I am just dumbfounded that 2K would release a sequel to a PC game that supported gamepad use and not even include gamepad use or any official statement as to why it is not included. Please don't say "to improve mouse and keyboard functionality." If you are going to ban me for not being civil so be it. Please just have your higher ups or whoever at the company make a patch for controller support. Besides the dual wielding the game plays exactly like the first , could it be that hard to implement gamepad support like the first Bioshock? It's bad enough I bought Bioshock 2 at Best Buy who will only exchange it for another PC version of the game. Is there any way I can exchange for the PS3 or 360 version anywhere somehow?
Josh deep breath and relax, I understand your frustration at those comments but they do pop up EVERY time a controller is mentioned in any game on PC. It's just something that many feel they have to point out, laugh at, or just use to abuse you about.
It's pointless getting involved as neither is "better" it's just preference and what's comfortable to YOU. Many PC gamers grew up on K&M (hell until the windows controller came along I used K&M) and some actually do game on PC purely for a mouse so in these rare instances when you have to ask for something like a controller some do get defensive. One amusing chap on Steam even told someone to "play Bioshock 2 on low difficulty if it's patched as he obviously needs to using a pad".
For some strange reason some will endlessly repeat this really silly "debate" on how "superior" K&M is trying to convert you or something, but just ignore the "them and us" trolling.
PC is a versatile beast now, pretty much a 4th console, but one that can actually cater to BOTH the K&M player and the pad player (when done right) so there is no need for this pointless argument.
Keep it to talking about the game and why you want your pad enabled. Leave the K&M debate alone, as it's one debate neither "side" can ever win.
Dear 2k,
Patch in PAD support, now.
1. GFW = Pad support
2. Bought Day one expecting pad support!
3. Woulda bought console had I known, but I have a raging rig and wanted to save $10
I bought this for my wife, who HATES M/K, for Valentines day. She LOVES Bioshock, but this was a disappointment to her. I can't get her to play any other games. Now, you've turned her off, and I won't get any. Lets not make this difficult for either of us.
What a massive let down! It's gonna sit on my desktop doing nothing until I get pad support. It's not a game for me...It's for a person more accustomed to pads.
Okay, I'll make you a deal! Give me pad support...and to the programmers responsible I will pledge personally made Bioshock t-shirts that they're sure to enjoy! Hook us up and send me an address with sizes. Don't make me spiteful 2k. I love you baby, but don't make me hit you!
p.s. Don't you dare tell me to use xpadder or whatever, because that s* is lame and you know it.

I am absolutely crestfallen that the superb 360 controller support of the first game has been removed.
I can't play this game like this - the speed at which I'm being forced to play at is literally making me ill.
Honestly, 2K, your 360 controller support in the original game was the best execution of 360 controller support I've ever seen in a PC game. Why was this decision made? I'm baffled by this. For single player, the 360 gamepad support is just... essential.
Right now, the game has been put on my shelf. As much as I want to play this game... and I want to play it very badly indeed... I'm not going to proceed until this gets fixed. I just can't believe that this decision was made. Removing something that just worked so beautifully...
Half the charm of the game has been destroyed - gliding around Rapture, as though I was in control of a camera, was one of the most sublime experiences I've had in all of gaming.
For me, this is the single worst design decision that anybody could've made.
Not for one second did it even cross my mind that the superb 360 controller support of the original game would be removed. When I learned about this omission this morning... I just couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it.
bring the BIG PADDY back plz...
I too am absolutely fumming that Bio doesnt support my controller. Its a friuggin GFWL game too so i just assumed..
If it wasnt an absolute nightmare to get my money back from steam then i would.... and i wouldnt be paying an xtra £15 to get the xbox version either!
PC platform is about CHOICE, this is not counterstrike i want vibration, comfort and analogue movement to sit on my sofa and play through a game like Bioshock
Ho hum
I know why it doesn't support the controller.
Bioshock 1 did, and as a result of moronic programming, the mouse + keyboard side then had forced mouse acceleration and smoothing and was absolutely terrible to use.
They got a huge amount of critique for that so they decided to fix it for Bioshock 2. The problem is they are too dumb to figure out how to do both properly without braking one.
haha that is VERY well said.
Here is the completly lame reply i got from technical support from on the issue:
Hello,
The game has been made to not support controllers unfortunately please find below the official statement and link :
We do not support a controller in the PC version of BioShock 2. Here is the official answer from the developer (which is also found on the Cult of Rapture – you can show people the PC Feature if they want to know more about that version.)
“We made quite a number of significant changes to UI / HUD for the PC version of the game. The decision was made early on not to support controllers at all in order to ensure that we got the mouse and keyboard control absolutely right. This of course required a redesign of large parts of the UI and the player HUD. For example, we removed the Weapons and Plasmid Selection Radials in favor of a custom created Weapons Selection Strip which more accurately reflects the keyboard layout.”

Technical Support
wow thats great....! Idiots
I just don't get it personally. Bioshock 2 was developed for console and PC, so the console UI and gamepad control scheme was all there, ready and working... why not just leave it in?
Bloody Bioware keep doing this as well. They develop a perfectly functional gamepad control scheme and UI, then rip it out when they finish off the PC version.
Surely it would have involved less work just leaving it in there?
Let people play how they want to. I hate using K+M cause it means I have to sit within a meter of my LCD.
I want to sit back, slouch, walk around and take in the scenery (which you can only really do with analog movement). K+M has a negative affect on Bioshock2's atmosphere imo.
You're always jogging along at the same speed.
Hey dude if you want to use a controller get an xbox or ps3! Your statement "For single player, the 360 gamepad support is just... essential." is complete rubbish. I for one wont miss you on multiplayer! enjoy the wilderness.
tbh I for one am glad theres no controller, the mouse and keyboard controls actually work this time round well done 2k. The game plays beautifully on my 37"hdtv while Im in bed sweet as.
Again well done 2K
