Smile About the Mafia II Demo PC Update

    Hey guys,

You may have noticed that Steam updated your PC demo last night. Here’s why:

There was an outstanding Steam PhysX installation issue where PhysX/APEX settings on MED or HIGH will only be run on the CPU, drastically lowering performance. This has now been corrected – so if you experienced this problem yesterday, things should run a lot smoother for you today! You can also get the fix here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_system_software.html.

Let me know how the update worked for you, and feel free to use this thread to share your benchmarks with others!

You have also removed the playboy photos in this update, I'm very sad.

Good to see them working out the problems.

Hope they haven't forgotten about the console gamers

Some kind of AA patch would be great. Antialiasing is much more influental on game's look rather than PhysX.

Probably he means is that they can't be seen again after finding them the first time.

But more important issue is, should we expect any anti-aliasing fix for the pc?

Todays update helped A LOT. Now, if I set graphics details accordingly, I can play with PhysX on High on my 260GTX (thanks to my lowres 1280x1024 display :-)) ). Canceling my HW upgrade orders! :-)

Well, the game still slows to a crawl (25FPS average) with the cloth physics file in. The performance loss is not worth it to see a couple clothes fluttering around.

Now, since the PhysX is calculated by GPU (if you have nVidia, of course), you can lower some Video details in order to save more performance for PhysX and make the FPS rise. For me, the PhysX in Mafia 2 makes a huge difference in game dynamics. Not just few cool effects as in Mirrors Edge or Batman.

And why not launching a patch for PS3 demo to fix at least the lack of grass and blood puddles?

    Thanks

I can't even notice the difference in cloth physics with it not enabled and enabled. However I still have the effects physics enabled. And that is the only thing that I really notice in the world.

Maybe he's gone blind and that's why he cants see them? I wonder what caused him to go blind while looking at those pictures?!

You don't see all the shuttering glass? Flying bricks? Car parts bumping around while it is being destroyed? :-)
Unlike Batman, this is not about cloth. But lucky you if you can't notice that. I would love to be able to ignore it and play with higher FPS :-)).

This update didn't help at all for me.

    My system is:

    I7 920 standard speed
    6Gb 1600mhz DDR3 ram
    Asus ENGTX480
    Windows 7 ultimate x64

Using forceware 258.96 and the new PhysX driver.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both drivers but the demo still uses CPU for PhysX even if i force the GPU as main physx in the control panel.

Well it's a good thing consoles don't have PhysX. :P

    Hi guys,

before update, M2 worked great for me - on max. details with AA and medium PHYSX (35 FPS)..

But because of yesterday's update, game FPS with medium PhysX went down to about 20-25 frames per second. It is much slower than before .. I tried to update ATI drivers, PhysX from Nvidia site .. But still nothing happened..

Now I'm playing it on full details, with AA but PhysX i must turn off. FPS about 35-40.

Anyone with the same problem? Any thoughts what to do with?

    My PC:
    Intel i5-750
    4GB Ram
    ATI Saphire HD 5770 1GB
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64

    Hello.

Congratulations on another fabulous game. Looking forward to its release.

But I'm also having performance issues, I was getting better frames before the new physx/mafia patch.

    965BE@3.4(stock)
    4GB@1066 DDR2.
    Nvidia470, single.

My benchmark with physx is 37. Without physx is 50.@ 1680x1050.

My system is clean, no extra processes running, I even check to see if I had any type of bottle neck going, but all my hardware is running as it should be. And all drivers are current.

Any help would be great! Would love to play with physx!

Good to see that I'm not alone with this issue.. Same for me, my HW is updated to the last version, 40 FPS without PhysX (that's great) .. Don't know why, but before update it worked simply faster .. Anyway, this is a detail for me .. PhysX is not THAT important .. I'm just little bit curious about this ..

Before any update I was running 70FPS without Physx, and around 30FPS with Physx. So my performance with phsx running did increase, but my performance without physx decreased tremendously.

Just wanted to let you know the update worked fine and I did indeed notice a vast improvement in game performances. Well done.

not that i use Physx but my question is...

will a patch be needed for the full game or was that Physx on med/high issues that's been fixed in the demo not a issue with the basic install of the final game?

Why don't you try yourself. Go to steam , install it and grab the demo and see how it performs.

Big WOO 2K! Thanks, this is great! wohooo!

I don't have giant flowers or spiking textures on the ground/streets. Thnx!
The graphics now look really good, but not aweseome. why? ( The drawing distance ) is too low, that it only draws things, shadows only like 40 meters away, I see the buildings, but not the fences or grass after that 40meters.

Also, Things like weapon magazines and bodies are burying through the ground. But bodies also disappears magically like in this image:
    http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7...onelevator.jpg

I can now play on all settings set to highest, and PhysX on. But, when I go inside to kill that fat prick on the mission, frames drops like from 60->15. But it's outside always good.

Can you 2K Staff please take this into account now you're polishing and making patches/updates to the final version.
