I've heard you can definitely free roam after you've finished, there are loads more threads about this and including this.

You cannot free roam after you finish. They said in the 1 hour broadcast that you have to just reload a mission and free roam in that

lol wow really?! it's not GTA ya know

you can reload ANY mission after the game is over, you can load a winter mission and free roam in the winter, load a summer mission and free roam in the summer.

not that theres any point to free roam anyways, there are no side missions

OMG this is not a sandbox game people It's a story-driven game. If all you care about is free roam, why not just go play GTA? What's wrong with loading a previous mission in order to free roam? Nothing, that's what. Plus, the Jimmy DLCs will be focused on free roam, so there's that too.

What happens when you beat the game? The game is over!

Today's gamers are spoiled on games that have free roam or multiplayer, and now they demand this of every game. There used to be a time not really that long ago when those things didn't even exist, and all games were more story based, even arcade games. For some of those games you could replay previous missions, and some you couldn't. Were people complaining in droves that the game was over when it was over? No.

It's not like 2K advertised Mafia II as "Mafia GTA".

And after those kids complain on how Mafia II sucks with having no freeroam, they go play Call Of Duty which has no freeroam at all. Ah, kids.

I'm a bit disappointed with no freeroam and the fact that i'll have to re-load missions with no side-missions to do (I guess the facts just hit me) but 8 years on making a story? That's 3 years longer than Alan Wake and look how that story was great!

I'm gonna play it again... I just watched 39 seconds of 1 spoilish cutscene, so I can tell you now guys... This is a game of the year. This is a STORY of the year. And no reviews, no magazines can make my mind changed.

This game has one of the best stories I have ever seen in a video game. It puts any GTA game and Red Dead Redemption to shame! You won't need darts and bowling thats how intense this story is.

I feel bad for people who don't want to spend money on ths game. They will be missing out on an awesome game.

Yea i wonder how much of those 8 years of development was actually used making mafia 2. This game looks like it would take 3 years the most to make.

5 years was used to delay the game (because of the PS3 development studio)

    Same here man, same here.

I only ever played GTA and all those games for the story and have always been disapointed because the mafia played oly a small role.

looks like 8 years of development they would of atleast been able to include racing like in the first mafia game as well as other stuff to do in the city

oh well hopefully dlc will be on the way for some of this

The problem with long development cycles is that technology is changing so much while you're in development. Also, the whole 8 years is not spent programming. At least some of that time is all story development, etc., and it sounds like that went through a lot of work, so that's where a lot of the development time went. Once they actually sit down and start coding, by the time things start to settle in terms of finally nailing down gameplay features, the story, etc., the technology has probably changed so much that they have to redo significant portions of the game in order to bring it up to today's standards. Anyway, that's just my theory. I don't know the whole history of the game's development. It would definitely be interesting to hear a lot more about it. Hopefully they talk at least a bit about it in the "Making Of" for the game - I think I saw that on a game menu when I briefly looked at a preview or something, am I right?

What console game do you think has the best graphics? simple question?

  23. #23
I've read reviews that have said that it takes 10 hours to finish the game. There isn't any reason to play it after you finish the main story line. It seems from what I've read that the game is too short.

I will probably play thru the game 2 times, than do what I did with Bioshock, Bioshock 2, GTA IV and Borderlands.... Uninstall it and make room for other games

After beating the game ill sell it to GameStop because its actually nothing to do after beating this game, no multiplayer and no free roam. They spent 4 years on this game and the only thing thats good about it is the story and the that story couldnt have taken 4 years too make. If u ask me 2K is a ****ty game producer

The *jobs* arnt really sidemissions, but instead are scripted encounters like the hooker carcrash, that vito can do something about like beat up the greaser thats harrassing the hooker and then be on his merry way.

Back to the other: The developers said "Mafia2 is open-world" and the GTAniacs jumped the mafia2 wagon and were all like diz game gona hav sidemissuns and cheatz and it guna be so like grand theft auto4 in the 50s bittches.

sad to say, this wasnt true at all and nope you cant play after you beat the game, but like someone before said you can go loadup a previous mission and play around in (freeroam mode).

sorry im on a roll but i smoked some purple hays and it was goodshiit .

It seems to me that companies always say that games are longer than it takes most players to finish them.

Then again, it also seems to me that many reviewers and many people who complain the game is too short rush through it because they have to finish it quickly to write a review, just to say they've finished it, or just to see how quickly they can beat it, without taking the time to actually enjoy it.

Pity there is no free room in this game. Would be nice you can play a mission whenever you want. I dislike chapters, i like a game without pauses. The stories were beautiful but after playing the demo and since there is no free room, it's not worth to buy a game like this for 60 euro's. I will wait till the price gets lowered to 25 euro max.

    Wait A Minute Guys!!

Theres ppl on here complaining that there is no free roam and no side missions and no multiplayer, now i dont know about other countries but in Ireland the game for the PC is €35, Xbox360 & PS3 is €55. Now the PC price is worth it for a story driven game but i would feel really cheateed if i was to pay €55 of my hard earned cash on the console game.

lol this game is meh. gameplay was average . story was average. story is very anti climatic. not gonna take away that the intro and ending was decent but everything in between is really average. i wouldn't suggest anyone buy this game if you're not already a fan of mafia series. the game tends to get repetitive.

    storyline is very generic.
